The MN Wilderness winners of the Dudley Hewitt playoff will be the first United States based hockey club to compete in Canada's Royal Bank Cup playoffs.
The Wilderness roster is comprised of 12 former Minnesota high school players.

The Royal Bank Cup is an annual ice hockey tournament held to determine the Canadian Junior A champion.

Congratulations to the Wilderness players, coaches, front office and fans! A job well done!!

The team is coached by former UMD Bulldog Rod Aldoff

No they don't. In fact, billet is paid by the team, and the players don't pay squat for anything.
At least the teams I'm familiar with.

It's actually considered Tier I by their designation. Canada doesn't actually have the Tier 1, 2, 3 designations. Instead they have Junior A, B & C. Of course also Major Junior, but that's considered professional.

Canadian Junior A Leagues are required to cover all player costs, just the like the USHL down here.

Canadian Junior B Leagues cover hockey costs, but you pay your billets, just like the NAHL down here.

Canadian Junior C Leagues are pay to play, just like Tier 3 down here.

The RBC Cup is the Junior A Championship, chased by all the Junior A Leagues (BCHL, AJHL etc.) The Penticton Vees are one of the better known teams around here because lots of our boys go to play there, but they fell short, losing to the Surrey Eagles in the BCHL finals.

Not all Canadian Junior A Leagues are considered equal, so it will be interesting to see how the Wildnerness do in this Tournament.

Not a good start for the first American team in history to play in the RBC Cup. A 5-1 loss to the host team. We showed well on the shot clock though, keeping pace at 26 apiece.

Wilderness will play Brooks Bandits at 2 PM in RBC Semifinal today.

Wild lose a tough one today 5-4 in OT.
