I would put your count down to two or three HS players as most left early for opportunities elsewhere. Some after their sophomore year and the Shattuck guys never having played here. We are really stretching when we count a Wisconsin kid who played as a freshman at Shattuck and then left the state.

Thanks. I found a couple of sites that listed Faribault as his hometown, which were obviously wrong. I took him off the list.

why not be fair to the other states and base it on the total players eligible per state vs those drafted. Easier to get those numbers when you u have so many playing in the state. Minnesota supplying the NHL with role players and farm team fillers year after year, unless of course they play in Ann Arbor or Shattuck.

And this is fair??? I certainly don't think so. There are more players from Minnesota playing key roles on teams in the NHL than any other state too. Not all of them went thru Shattuck or Ann Arbor. And how many players from other states are playing key roles in the NHL who didn't play AAA hockey or go thru Ann Arbor?

Matt Cullen, David Backes, Paul Martin, Blake Wheeler, Jordan Leopold, Tom Gilbert, Alex Goligoski, Ryan McDonagh, Nick Leddy, Jake Gardiner, etc...

None fit your description.

Minnesota has more numbers, why? Instead of crying about stats being skewed by more Minnesotans playing the game on a board dedicated to Minnesota hockey, try changing that. Get more kids to play elsewhere.

This was arguably one of the dumbest, most envy and hate filled posts I've read in a while. Check yourself.

Been thinking about this some more. You think numbers skew things, eh?

Let's compare Minnesota to that hockey dead area to our East, known as Wisconsin.

How many Minnesotans played hockey this past year? I believe the number is close to 55,000. How many kids played in Wisconsin? I believe the number is just shy of 30,000.

There were 14 Minnesotans drafted and only 2 kids from Wisconsin got their name called. Of the Minnesotans drafted, the two highest players played MNHS hockey last season (Yeah, I know Hurley played at Shattuck a short time) and 6 total were drafted out of MNHS. Neither of the Wisconsin kids played WIHS hockey last year.

So with that in mind let me ask you these questions...

First, are you suggesting the odds are that WI will end up with as many players from this class playing key NHL roles? If so, excuse me while I laugh.

Second, how do you suggest we incorporate USA Hockey participation numbers in order to skew the draft stats of both states in order to not hurt your fragile ego? Per capita draft rate? Wisconsin still looks like an ugly hockey void caught in between MN, MI, and Canada.

Third, how is this not an indictment of HS hockey elsewhere in this country much more than it is HS hockey in Minnesota?

I'm not mad or upset in the slightest. Just helping you understand how utterly ridiculous your post was. And having a little honest fun at your expense in the process. You opened the can of worms

And clearly you do care because you got so butt hurt over Minnesotans being proud of Minnesotans getting drafted on a message board dedicated to Minnesota hockey.

8 drafted either played out their HS years or are still in HS.

Good to see MN kids get their names called, regardless of where they played last year.

For some people hoping their names would get called. Hang in there - if your good enough you still have a shot. There were 82 players "non-drafted" in the NHL this season alone - that would amount to amount 3.5 whole teams , maybe.

They seem to be everywhere in this young NHL season, whether it be Dan Boyle scoring a power-play goal for the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday or Yann Danis replacing Devan Dubynk in goal for the Edmonton Oilers in the same game.

There also was David Clarkson's big goal for the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. Cory Conacher scored for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Andy McDonald checked in with a goal for the St. Louis Blues.

On Monday, 27-year-old rookie blue-liner Mike Kostka continued to impress the Toronto Maple Leafs faithful on that team's top defence pairing. Meanwhile, Brian Lashoff scored in his first career NHL game for the Detroit Red Wings and teammate Damien Brunner was lauded for his highlight-reel shootout winner.

What do all these players have in common? They went undrafted. They slipped through the cracks, but still eventually found their way to the NHL.

In total, there are 82 undrafted players currently sprinkled on NHL rosters. That's approximately 12 per cent of the league.
