I have heard East considered the Cake Eaters of the north multiple times

East knows they are elitist minded. Don't get me wrong, guys
like east hockey seem very reasonable and not arrogant. But for the
most part they are the Edina of the North.

Ouch. No DE affiliation but I have to have a little sympathy for any team associated with that history.

Anyways, being a native of GR I'm bleeding purple
for this tilt as I always do. Go Jacks! I'll say Cloquet
wins 3-2 in OT.

This rivalry has always had a pretty strong class element to it, with paper mill town Cloquet matching up with the blueblood/old money east side. (I doubt that the average family income at East is anywhere near Edina's, but if you've spent any time on the east side of Duluth, you know there is some money there. Add in their long history of hockey success and the expectation that this team will go to State pretty much every year, and it's not hard to see how East can appear arrogant.)

I'm getting lazy in my old age and won't be making the road trip (I assume there will be a webcast, kniven?), but hopefully the atmosphere is good, as it was during the regular season last year. Cloquet may not have much in the way of front-end talent, but they seem to be playing decently well so far, and they always get up for this one. (Last season's section semifinal aside, when it was pretty clear there was other stuff going on.)

Awesome, thanks. I'll enjoy this one on my couch and beneath a blanket instead of bundled up and standing along a rail at the Lumberdome. :)

Nevertoomuch, I'll send you a private message about Cloquet last season.

Come on Karl, it's a textile plant now. Cloquet never gets any respect from East Duluthians :)

Textiles? You mean our next set of section championship t-shirts are going to have tags that say "Made in Cloquet" instead of "Made in Bangladesh"? :P

Heard from a student at East that they are bringing back some old traditions to this game. Should be fun to watch 8)

Cloquet wins 3-2 with a Cambridge-Isanti like effort.

Old tradition as in waving $20 bills at the opposing fans?

Such a classic. I remember one year multiple kids threw 100s on the ice.

Who could forget the classic of 2006 Semifinals:

East fans flipping off Cloquet/Rapids/Elks fans after they knew their season was over. :P

5-1 East. Too much talent wins over too much heart.
