I stumbled on a nice little treasure trove: 25 videos of section playoffs and State Tournament highlights from the 1990s.
http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9_lZXj ... jDw/videos
Highlights include:
-The 1992 Hill/Johnson game recently mentioned on here
-The Jefferson dynasty in its prime
-Dave Spehar's penalty shot and 3rd hat trick in 95
-The great East, Roseau, and Blaine teams from the later part of the decade
Some great names mentioned in a number of these games. It's mostly Wally Shaver on the calls.

Ok, the name seemed vaguely familiar. I'd noticed he has a bunch of old video on there, but it was (for obvious reasons) strictly Hill. Fun to see some of the other stuff, too.

They called Denfeld "the pride of Duluth's east side."
So much to love there, though. They dispatch a reporter to Warroad, the music video highlights, Doug Woog trying to analyze games without being able to talk about players, and the drugs and alcohol PSA at the end...

I wish Rapids would go back to those traditional white jerseys from 1991. It's Blackhawks style. Classic! And while I'm wishing, Indians would be great too!

It's a shell of what it used to be.

How can the TV production of 25 years ago be so much better than today's version. Excellent video. We know you love it because of your cameo

Old Civic Center and Wally doesn't get much better. And not to try to lock the string but the old school Braves against the Indians was classic. These are great clips. I wish Spehar hadn't been lured by Woog to play for the Gophers. It would have been so much better had he stayed in Duluth and played for the Bulldogs.

Serty didn't seem to care too much about getting East players in those days; at the very least, he had litle success in doing so. Spehar, Mills, Angell--all lost to the Rodents. And it's not as though the Gophers were dominant in those days, either.

I didn't say he didn't want them. I said he didn't want them "too much". They missed out on Locker and Wheeler, too, since we're on the topic. With all the D-1 kids East cranked out during those years, tUMD should have had better success in landing some of these kids. Clearly in opposition to how it's been lately. Did UMD ever have more than one East grad on their roster in the 80's & 90's? (other than the Brothers Coole).
Of course, if I'm wrong on that, I'm open to education. But this is how it appeared to myself and those I've talked to.

Great to see these. Elk River V Hastings semi-final thriller highlights are awesome. Paul Martin getting Robbed.
