Both teams coming off of long, hard fought games. Elks trying to bounce back from their first loss of the season and Edina trying to keep the momentum going from overtime last night. Who wins this one?

Look for the Elks to rebound from the EP game last night. Goaltending makes the difference in this one. The Elks win by 2.

I'd expect Edina to play better tonight as well and though the Edina tender let in a couple of softies early he did shut the door the remainder of the game. At times last night it seemed like Edina was disinterested in playing. IMO Edina has to much depth and experience and I don't see ER beating them if they hang there hat on the goalie and a sophomore d-man that looked like a sophomore still cutting teeth at the varsity level. I'll take Edina 5-3.

1 -1 after 1. Shots pretty even. Does HS use the rule that a delayed penalty must still be served if the attacking team scores with the extra attacker? Fidler scored and ER still served the penalty unless another was called. Still not up on some of the rule changes and haven't seen this yet all year.

There were 2 penalties on ER. First interference and then hooking. Hooking served

Gotcha. Thanks Warm Bus. The disadvantages of watching the live stream I guess.

Refs don't call the check from behind on an Edina player in the 2nd when the ER player pops up after the hit but then call a weak interference call on ER. Refs need to call the check from behind consistently and not determine if it's a 5 and 10 based solely on how bad the player is or is not hurt. Yeah some teams have already learned to embellish by rolling on the ice hoping to draw the major which is wrong. Maybe bring in a 2 and 10 check from behind but offenders need to sit for a bit.

2-2 late in the 2nd for those not at the game or watching the stream. Surely the Hub won't have an accurate score.

4-2 Edina at the end of 2. Hornets get 2 quick goals about a minute apart late in the 2nd. More chances and depth from Edina. Shots seem pretty even but no real chances for ER other than a defensive breakdown or two.

5-3 Edina with 10 minutes left in the 3rd. Questionable major just called on Edina for head contact. No consistency in the calls. It may have been head contact which is a major but not to call the checking from behind which is much more dangerous is inexcusable. Refs and the MSHSL need to figure it out and be consistent.

Edina gets an empty net goal with a couple of seconds left to seal the win. Final was 6-3. ER had 7 minutes of PP time in the last 10 minutes and couldn't generate much of anything. Edina vs EP tomorrow night in a battle of the two 2 & 0 teams in the tourney. Should be good.

Edina's many penalties gave the Elks every opportunity to get back into it in the 3rd, but the ER power play sure needs some work. Very lethargic, to say the least.
Edina just doesn't lose in this tournament. Tomorrow night's Edina-EP game should be a great one.

Elks not as deep as Edina, Was interesting to watch the Hornets finish every check on the Elk's Soph d-man. Was even more noticeable after he scored and went right to the Edina student section. He did show great composure and not retaliate. A few growing pains on the defensive end though. Not surprised by the outcome though, Rapids is next, I think it will closer than some think. 7AA games are the most important...

not that you were one ranting about the edina refs being their own blah blah blah...but does them getting a grip load of penalties called against them in the 3rd put any of this to rest or is this a case of the general population just not being a fan of the "cake eaters"

Since it's EASY to complain about the refs AND Edina I may be Nuts but will make the case the refs were overly friendly to Edina at Braemar yet again. Yes Edina had way more penalties last night but they were the more chippy team. The minor roughing penalty called on Edina in the middle of the second period was a hit from behind and clearly should have been a major. I believe ER scored a PP goal regardless of what the Flub says during the 2 minute advantage to make the score 2-2. Had the major been called and ER put in another goal on the PP they take the lead and maybe the game is different. Then the 'cake refs' call a weak interference penalty on ER later in the 2nd to take any flow going towards ER. Edina then gets 2 goals late in the 2nd. Yes the cake refs were right calling a major on Edina later but it's when the game is about over with Edina leading 5-2 halfway thru the 3rd. Very different from calling the major when it is 2-1 in the 2nd. Not just in this game but no consistency in the calls the refs need to make every time regardless of the score or time left in the game. Skip the ticky tack calls like the interference or minor hooks but they gotta call the dangerous hits where a kid can be seriously hurt. I still won't go as far to say the Elks EASILY could have won the game. Edina was clearly the better team with ER looking a bit flat.

Yup. Or just incredibly biased.

Cake-Dad let's just go with Nuts. I'd hate to think anyone would interpret the post or me being biased towards ER or Edina. No kid or personal stake in either team which differs from your perspective. If I was wrong with my take on the calls feel free to debate. If not good luck in your game against EP tonight.

I guess 32% for the year on the power play isn't good enough

I'm not playing tonight. Nor is any member of my family. I just think the constant whining about Edina and refs is funny.
