How about Spehar? He was a good high school player. Is he still playing?Sartellcelly wrote:Of course, eras make it tough to compare. Not sure guys from the 30s would be able to compete with today's highly trained, equipped and much larger and faster skaters. advances for goalies in equipment, height and technique also give a huge edge to recent netminders.
Some slam dunks, I believe:
Mark Johnson
Neal Broten
Paul Martin
Phil Housley
TJ Oshie
Others can pick it up from there.
many more defensemen than forwards..too much systems?DubCHAGuy wrote:Parise (Bloomington/Shattuck) - Backes (Spring Lake Park) - Oshie (Warroad)
Wheeler (Wayzata/Breck) - Stepan (Hastings/Shattuck) - Okposo (St. Paul/Shattuck)
Cullen (Moorhead) - Bjugstad (Blaine) - Mueller (Bloomington/Breck?)
Nelson (Warroad) - Hendricks (Blaine) - Hanowski (Little Falls)
McDonagh (St. Paul/Cretin) - Faulk (So. St. Paul)
Martin (Elk River) - Johnson (Bloomington/Holy Angels)
Goligoski (Grand Rapids) - Byfuglien (Roseau)
Gardiner (Minnetonka) - Niskanen (Virginia-MIB)
Stalock (So. St. Paul)
Frazee (Burnsville?/Holy Angels)
I probably missed a couple of Forwards. Plenty of good Defenseman left off my list who could be on others (Leddy, McBain, Hillen, Ballard to name a few)
An interesting side discussion: How would this team (MN Natives) fair in a season against the current NHL teams? Stanley Cup?DubCHAGuy wrote:Parise (Bloomington/Shattuck) - Backes (Spring Lake Park) - Oshie (Warroad)

Not sure, but they'd be better than at least four of the Olympic teams.CHI-TOWN HOCKEYDAD wrote:An interesting side discussion: How would this team (MN Natives) fair in a season against the current NHL teams? Stanley Cup?
Hano probably doesn't make the team, and I say that as a die-hard Husky fan. Bochenski is clearly a better option. Unless, for some reason, you're only counting players currently playing in America.Mite-dad wrote:How do you think they would do on the big ice. I know Hano played his college career on big ice, but he is not the fastest skater. Pretty nice list of players though.
Throw Kent Patterson into that mix as well...The Exiled One wrote:A couple of alternatives for Frazee in nets...

I'd probably put Riley Gill and Eric Hartzell higher on the list. In fact, I might pick Hartzell to back-up Stalock.bubblehockey27 wrote:Throw Kent Patterson into that mix as well...
Agreed! Can't believe I forgot about Hartzy! The Exiled One wrote:I'd probably put Riley Gill and Eric Hartzell higher on the list. In fact, I might pick Hartzell to back-up Stalock.bubblehockey27 wrote:Throw Kent Patterson into that mix as well...
Very cool! They found a few more Minnesota forwards that we missed, most notably Ryan Carter. (Facepalm for missing him.) They also included JT Brown, Pat Eaves, Tyler Pitlick, Danny Kristo, and Tim Jackman (born in North Dakota, H.S. at Park Center).CHI-TOWN HOCKEYDAD wrote:Article with MN Hockeys All MN team:
