Duluth vs. Htown vs. Marshall vs. Cloquet

While sitting around the rink the other night, the perennial "what-if" question came up. What if the powers-that-be allowed a game between East and Hermantown, or Marshall? Throw Cloquet into that mix. These teams have as much of a rich history as any other part of the state, but due to the "nothing to gain and everything to lose" attitude, we haven't seen these dream match-ups. Let's put some public pressure on the old boys sitting behind the desk. It worked for College Football, why not in the frigid north? A four team tournament that crowns the King of the North to be held at Amsoil would be an incredible weekend of hockey. It would sell out in minutes. Attach a cause. Breast Cancer or any other cause du jour. The only reason I see that someone wouldn't support this is that they are afraid they would lose.

East is the only one with nothing to gain and everything to lose. The other three have nothing to lose and everything to gain. The former East AD who is now on the school board (Miernicke, sp?) was quoted a few years back saying that they won't play those teams until they are let back into the Lake Superior Conference. I don't know if they were forced out or what happened, but that was his excuse. I'm sure Karl would have first hand info on this.

Why not Denfeld? They are always able to throw a wrench into everyone's predictions with gritty play not to mention the rivalries with each of the four teams mentioned??

Before anyone jumps on me, I realize that Denfeld already plays these teams, just seems wrong to exclude them from a Duluth tourny.

I'm an air-head. Of course Denfeld. They are the only ones playing everyone currently. Maybe Superior to round it out to six?
