As a Jefferson student, I want a rematch with Edina, last year was ours and we let it slip. Haven't beat them in something like 12 years? I don't remember exactly, but it's been forever. We did just beat Burnsville a couple weeks ago, but beating them again will be really tough. Need great goaltending and a little luck.

As much as I would love to see Burnsville knock off Edina, I just think Hornets depth will end up being too much.

I think as long as Burnsville does not get upset before the final they will be the team representing this section for this year. I think they match up well against Edina. They have already beat them once and in the first meeting would have beaten them twice if not for a 3rd period breakdown.
I hope I'm wrong but I have a bad feeling for this game.

if in fact they both get to the final..I will take Burnsville's forwards against the Edina D corps..one goal game..

Not so much, I really just think Burnsville has been a tough match up for Edina this year. I don't think the big ice will be as much of an advantage as it has in past years for Edina, I think it might even become an issue for them with some young and slower defense, along with Burnsville's quick top line.
I think it will be a one goal game and as of right now I think it will in the favor of Burnsville. Both obviously have to beat a solid team before the final though so we will see how it plays out.

I'd agree as long as Burnsville doesn't lose to Jefferson. If they can win that game they have a good shot at ending Edinas run at state they looked much better in both meetings against Edina other than one period. I'll take Burnsville 4-2 with the EN

I'm hoping this section will have anyone other than Edina or Burnsville but that's going to take some pretty big upsets that aren't that likely to happen.

So I'd say that Edina vs Burnsville section final may actually be the state championship game. I think whoever wins this game goes on to win state.

Not sure how many years it's going to be now that everyone thinks Burnsville is going to take down Edina, and I would have to agree, there have been times that I thought it would happen. But then I woke up. Edina.......on the big ice.......in a rout......as usual.

You'd think someone in the section could beat them once in the past 7 years other than the regular season

Since Edina only has to play two games, why not pick them?

Do you think it would make any difference in the overall scheme of things if they beat an 8 seed 12-0?

I do not see anyone beating Edina on the big ice. Burnsville would be tough but with Edina only having to play one game, the advantage is theirs. Giles will have them ready and they are way to fast.
But both of them have to win the first games and as everyone knows there could be an upset....

Agreed. And they are the defending champs and until someone else knocks them off (unlikely in my opinion) they will continue to be the best.

When did Edina rout Burnsville in a section final?

These two teams have played on big ice a few time over the years Fred Dopestone and a 1 goal game seems the norm, I'll take Burnsville just cause they have matched up better against da hornets this year.

Of course da Braves got to beat da Jags first

I guess the rout I was referring to was the 6-3 (37-14 shots) in 2011-12, but 2 of past 3 meetings have been close on the scoreboard. Is that better Windy.

I agree, unless Bemidji makes it to State, then it will be necessary for me to think they will win it.

*I preface this with the thought that Edina will make it to the section final. Of course they have to get past their semifinal opponent*

Edina's run is going to end eventually.

I think the biggest thing is Edina would have the last line change, and probably Giles' biggest strength is getting the matchups that he wants. I haven't seen Burnsville or Jefferson play, but from what I hear, they're a bit more reliant on one team & a few players. Edina's depth helps them with these match-ups.

Question will probably how will Edina's D play against either team on the big sheet. Edina's D last year was pretty good. Nanne will thrive on the big ice against any HS competition so that will help, but how will the other D respond? Edina's D has always seemed to thrive on the bigger ice sheet against their opponent in these section finals games. I think that will be the difference. Can Edina's D continue this....If so, they'll be tough to bounce in 2AA.

I'd put my $ on Edina if it came to a choice, but I wouldn't bet the farm. I may be incorrect, but I don't put a lot of stock in the first two meetings. Edina historically has been a different team in sections than around the holidays. Burnsville & Jefferson's different as well.....should be great hockey!

If other Sections send high seeds Burnsville is 0-2 vs Lakeville North and 0-1 against HM so I don't agree that this is the state championship game

Burnsville will never beat Edina untill the B'ville coach plays all three lines. He plays two lines way too much and Edina out lasts them every year. I hope this year is different but I doubt it.

I think that would obviously be ideal, but it's a bit more difficult than said. Edina's strength is their depth. They can roll 3 lines. Perhaps a handful, at best, of teams can match up with their depth. Not everyone has it. Plus, Edina has the last change. Burnsville tosses out a 3rd line and Edina can get a potential mismatch, yet still have the ability to match up when Burnsville tossed out their 1st line.

Perhaps they do need to spot them more shifts and develop more depth to be able to counter this. I think Giles kind of learned this lesson after 2008 & 2009; no one player or one line is going to win a AA title by themselves. But it's a little more difficult than just "playing all three lines" to avoid fatigue.
