Class A Rankings 2-16-14

Section playoffs are upon us. Lots of games this week. By the end of the week we will be down to 20 teams.

Enjoy!

1. East Grand Forks (22-2-1) [8A #1]
The Green Wave finish the regular season with 14 wins in a row. They are likely to have two games this week.
This week: 8A Quarterfinals Tuesday and Semifinals Saturday

2. Hermantown (19-4-2) [7A #1]
The Hawks are 2-1-2 in the last two weeks. Despite the recent struggles, they are the only team with no Class A losses this season and are 2-0-1 against the Duluth teams in their section.
This week: 7A Quarterfinals Tuesday and Semifinals Saturday

3. Breck (6-0-1) [2A #1]
The Mustangs win 8 in a row going into section playoffs. They have lost to two teams who have a good chance at making it to the X, but have a good shot at a couple wins at state.
This week: 2A Quarterfinals Friday

4. Warroad (20-4-1) [8A #2]
The Warriors’ two losses and tie going 16-2-1 in their last 19 games were all against EGF and TRF. Going 1-2-1 against them, can they beat them both in sections?
This week: 8A Quarterfinals Tuesday and Semifinals Saturday

5. Duluth Marshall (16-8-1) [7A #2]
The Hilltoppers ended the season dominating Cathedral but are 0-2 against Denfeld and Hermantown this season. They will likely be playing in the section final, can they beat a team they’ve previously lost to?
This week: 7A Quarterfinals Tuesday and Semifinals Saturday

6. Cathedral (17-7-1) [6A #1]
The Crusaders will have to beat a team who has previously beaten them on Saturday to get the opportunity to play in the section final.

7. Totino-Grace (14-9-1)
The Eagles got throttled by Wayzata this week while they picked up another couple wins. They play their last regular season game on Monday.

8. Denfeld (13-10-2) [7A #4]
After an up and down season, the Hunters have been playing well as of late. After losing in OT and tying Hermantown, can they beat them in the third matchup on Saturday?
This week: 7A Quarterfinals Tuesday and Semifinals Saturday

9. New Prague (18-4-3) [1A #1]
Since their back to back losses to Hermantown and Farmington, the Trojans have won 5 in a row. Two more games before they play West again.
This week: 1A Quarterfinals Thursday and Semifinals Saturday

10. Mankato West (23-2) [1A #2]
The Scarlets have continued to win this season. Can they beat New Prague this time so we can see them at the X?

11. Luverne (24-0-1) [3A #1]
The Cardinals just keep winning. 3 more wins away from playing in St Paul.

12. Kennedy (12-11-2) [2A #3]
The Eagles end the season over .500 while playing Burnsville as close as some of the top AA teams in the state. How far can they make it in section 2A?

13. Thief River Falls (14-10-1) [7A #3]
Since beating Warroad last week, the Prowlers are 1-2-1. Can they make it to the section final for a third crack at East Grand Forks?
This week: 8A Quarterfinals Tuesday and Semifinals Saturday

14. Blake (15-10) [2A #5]
The Bears are 9-2 in their last 11 games with the 2 losses coming to Breck. Will they get an opportunity to play them again?

15. Virginia (17-7-1) [7A #3]
The Blue Devils followed up a win over Grand Rapids with a shutout loss to Duluth Marshall, the team they will likely play in the semis.

And will you be doing any section predictions before they get going?(not including the few play in games completed already)

Probably 1. There will be 20 teams left next week.
After that, there will be 8 and they get seeded by the coaches.
Not much of a reason to do anything more than that. I'm will but it seems arbitrary at that point.

Great Job again.

Just dont understand why blake, a 5 seed in their section, is so highly ranked.

I get their on a bit of a run, but just seems high to me.

Seeding is based on the whole year, so some early losses will cost them there. Pretty simple.
