2AA Final Edina Vs Jefferson

I think this is an interesting match up, Edina is the favorite but I think Jefferson will be a tough team to beat. They have a very good player in Panvica that can score and a goalie that caused a lot of problems for the hornets in the semi finals last year in Martens.
The biggest question I have will be if Jefferson's defense will be able to keep up with the quick Edina Offense on the big ice. If Jefferson can slow Edina down and keep them to the outside they will have a good chance in the game.

I will go with Edina 4-2

Congrats to Jefferson on huge upset win over Burnsville (btw how soon until we see Brock Boeser in USHL?-I say next weekend) and no disrespect to jags but Edina is too skilled, too fast and too well coached. Big ice at Mariucci will only make it more difficult for Jags to contain. I'll go with Edina 6-1.

Really sorry to say, Edina in a romp. The question is who will Edina play in the State Tournament Championship game. Poll that one.

After seeing what the Hornets did to the Lakers, if Edina comes out and plays at a similar level, the game Wednesday will be over before the start of the 3rd period. 6-1 Edina.

I question if Jefferson will use last year's controversial quarter final Edina win as fuel for motivation & revenge??? I can't imagine they've forgot about that game tying goal...

What a great classic cross town rivalry to see at Mariucci. And this go around just a year later doesn't just decide an advancement in sections, but a trip to the big stage. Fun & emotion is on the horizon.

Been a long while since we have seen the powder blues of the Jefferson Jaguars patroling the ice at the State tournament, I think it would be great to see them make it along with Roseau, Go Jags and Rams !!

Oh how I'd love to see Jefferson upset Edina tonight.

If I'm betting with my heart, I'll take Jefferson 4-3 OT...

If I'm betting with my brain, I'll take Edina 5-1.

I had a visitor at my door and missed the first 4 minutes but when I came back it was 2-1 Edina.
Sounded like edina came out flying and has been slowed down of late while jefferson scored in there somewhere.
Edina has been making maybe one to many passes and just can't complete that last one.
Martens looks uncomfortable right now, he is flying around his crease, sprawling around.

2-1 after the first in favor of Edina
shots are 12-7 Edina
The refs are really letting these guys play, couple have been a couple of penalties for both teams that the refs have not called. Pretty shocking on a few.

It looked like Edina was going to blow Jefferson out of the water in the first few minutes, and the Jags looked awful in their own zone, but they've looked alright since. Not sure if they can withstand 3 periods of Edina, but they've got a shot right now.

Malmquist on a pretty shorthanded goal. Came in 2 on 1 after he caught a jag defenseman pinching went to his backhand as the other jag defender laid down to take away the pass and he then put the back handed shot past Martens
3-1 Hornets

They are letting them play. Edina in control. Glad to see tripping called on the Nanne hip check. He was clearly targeting his opponent's knees.

End of two
Edina 3
Jefferson 1
Shots in the period were 12-1 in favor of Edina giving us a 2 period total of 24-8
Both team with one powerplay in the period
The first 5 minutes were extremely sloppy, turnovers in the neutral zone, bad passes, just over skating the puck and nobody could sustain pressure in a teams zone, it just looked bad. After that Edina took a penalty and scored shorthanded, that seemed to give them a little juice and they pretty much dominated since then with some solid chances.
The game has become really physical, lots of big hits mostly coming from jefferson as they try to knock Edina of the puck. Martens looks a lot better than he did in the first and has made some good saves in the period.
If edina can keep up what they have been doing they should win this game no problem, they played shut down D and barely let the Jags touch the puck in there zone but another goal would sure be helpful to add a little cushion.
Jefferson needs to step up and play more offensive in that 2nd period it seemed like they went into a defensive shell and if they can play like they did in the 2nd half of the 1st period they can cause some pressure and maybe get a goal or two.
Should be a great 3rd

Watched a little of the on-line stream. Was this a first round game or the Section finals? Where is everybody??

Guessing they must have closed off the far side to make clean up easier and crowds must have been on the camera side.......seriously did the weather keep everyone at home or has the interest in HS hockey dropped this far? 2-3 yrs ago that building was SRO.

Final
Edina 5
Jefferson 1

Solid game for the Hornets, they played a strong game on both ends of the ice. There forecheck was strong and made it tough for Jefferson to break it out all night. They were a little sloppy with passing but in the end the pressure they put on the Jag's D made up for it.
The defense was outstanding, they were breaking the puck out with ease and the top four dmen all played to there strength with Nanne making Rushes up the ice, Foley and Zuhlsdorf playing a stay at home game while Fuss was making some great outlet passes up the ice and finding open players in the offensive zone. They limited the shots the Jags had (including keeping Panvica to 0 shots) and mostly kept them to the outside.
The 3rd period was much of the same compared to the 2nd. Edina kept the puck deep in the Jefferson's zone and didn't let them into there zone much.
Fidler had a nice goal as he received a pass from Munson down behind the net and made a nice move to the net where some traffic built up and he slipped a shot past Martens.
Wait's goal was a breakaway that Martens decided to go get the puck but then at the last second decided it was too far and Wait caught him out of position for an easy goal
I think Pete Wagnnor nailed it when he said Malmquist's shorthanded goal was the point in this game when the tide seemed to shift. It was a close one goal game at that point with jefferson on the powerplay and they were creating some chances but after Malmquist scored Edina took over complete control.
Jefferson Looked a little disorganized on there breakout which seemed to be what hurt them the most. They tried to play physical but that just put them into a defensive shell. Martens played great in back and I thought #4 Robbel played great for them on defense, only a sophomore too, he was very impressive.

Excited that the Hornets are back at state with a strong team, im looking forward to coming back into the cities to watch the Tournament

The announcers said the building was half full. Seems to be right on average to where they were the last few years. It is a bit disappointing.

Jefferson students did show up though and had a nice sized crowd. The first game I heard was worse than the second as both Jefferson and Edina had bigger student sections by themselves than EP and Benilde combined. Jefferson did have the largest it seemed though.

Agree that Jefferson had the largest, but in the first game BSM's student section was roughly twice as large (and as spirited) as EP's which, considering the size of the school, was disappointing.
