Can anyone think of what the lowest seed ever to punch their ticket to the tourney was?

Probably Rosemount in Tier 2 (1992)

Austin was the #7 seed in section 1AA in 1993 and went in the ugliest section final game I ever saw. Austin was by far the worst AA team to ever play at state.

And they won a game at state...

Lost 9-0 to Elk River in the first round
Beat Apple Valley 2-1 in the Cons Semis
And lost 11-3 to Cloquet in the Cons Finals...

what was litchfield a couple years ago? i know that they were the first team that i have seen with a losing record make it to state

I'll echo this. I think I remember seeing in a program from a later year that their record was something like 4-20-1 going into the tournament. So they would have won one and tied a game during the regular season and then swept the section playoffs.

Tier 2 was made up of teams seeded 9 and lower, coaches seeded every team in their section #1 through #20 or whatever number of teams were in that section. Teams #1 through #8 were Tier 1 while the rest were Tier 2. I don't think Rosemount was the "#7" seed in their Tier 2 tournament.

I think Rosemount finished second to Coleraine in that State Tournament.
