ROSEAU VS. #2 LAKEVILLE NORTH
-The first AA quarterfinal match has a fun storyline, one of the state’s great traditional powers against a new rising star. This appears to be the first meeting between these two teams.

Roseau (20-7-1, #19, 1-seed in 8AA)
State appearances: 34 (first since 2010)
State championships: 7 (1946, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1990, 1999, 2007)
Key section win: 7-4 over #24 Moorhead
-The Rams had few games against most state powers, leaving them one of the bigger unknowns heading into the Tourney. What isn’t in doubt is the top-end talent on their first unit, which includes Mr. Hockey finalist Zach Yon (18), his partner in crime Alex Strand (9), and high-scoring defenseman Cole Bjugson (21). They have some offense on their second line as well, but any chance at a first-round upset will require tight defense in front of goaltender Ryan Anderson (1). If they can withstand North’s depth, stay out of the box, and spring their top guns, they’ll have a fighting chance.

Lakeville North (23-4-1, #3, 1-seed in 1AA)
State appearances: 5 (2 in a row)
Key section win: 6-0 over 2-seed Farmington
-The Panthers took the state by storm this season, surging into the top 5 with a 19-game unbeaten streak over the second half. They are led by the all-brother, St. Cloud State-bound line of Jack (3), Nick (7), and Ryan (4) Poehling, but have good depth beyond them, with no obvious weaknesses. The second and third lines can match anyone’s; Tristen Hazlett (11) is up amongst the Poehlings in points, and Jack McNeely (20) leads a quality crop of defensemen. The only real question mark here is how a very young team that is used to being the underdog will handle the pressure of being a favorite in the Tourney. They only have 6 seniors and play 3 freshmen regularly, including goaltender Jake Oettinger (29).

I'll take the co-op school in Lakeville North/Lakeville South/Farmington 6-2. In the end North comes up short in the finals to the Hornets losing 4-2.

North should win this game in third, talented depth wears down the Rams, who have a great 1st line that will match North for two periods then tire...
North 6-3.

That was my head talking. Saw North play two Section games, and they are fun to watch. Very good team. Did not see Roseau play at all this year...

Now the heart will talk...

Dad is a Roseau kid. Taught me the game. Taught me the love of the game. I still have family in Roseau. My hope is that the Rams have another run in them to win another State Championship to keep the "one a decade" rolling...
Roseau 4 North 3... Hoping...

39th year at the tourney for Dad & I! Go Rams! Make one more run! 8)

I've got to think Roseau is loving the underdog role. They'll have a majority of the X cheering for them. Can a young LN team handle the pressure ?? Guess we will see.

LN.

Roseau has weak defense, and a one line offense.

Goalie is above average though, and if they're to advance, he'll have to play a large part.

Rams are not a come from behind team by 2 or more goals, but if they are close going into the 3rd period(down 1/tied) or have the lead, they can be pretty exciting to watch.

It's not cheering FOR them as much as AGAINST Lakeville.

But I think they still lose. 6-2.

I saw Roseau senior goalie Ryan Anderson shutout a good top 15 Holy Family team in Victoria in February. Roseau has the one great line and Cole Bjugson on defense. Panthers are 3 lines deep, and 2 good D pairs. Anything is possible in a one game playoff, but in a 7 game series the Panthers would win 5 and probably 6.

Panthers depth just too much for Roseau's one line. Granted I would love to see Roseau win it all.

Bjugson is more of an asset offensively, than defense.

Rather weak defensively.

Roseau keys:
-Have the lower lines hold their own
-Discipline in their own zone
-Spring the big guns and get them their chances

North keys:
-Use their depth to wear down Roseau
-Composure as a favorite on the big stage

Lakeville North might be controlling play but Roseau has the scoring chances and shots advantage. ( north 0-1 on pp)
