I had heard somewhere that Cosell once called the HS hockey tournament "The greatest amateur sporting spectacle in America" or something along those lines.
I have looked around the interwebz and cannot find any such citation.
Anyone else heard of him saying such a thing?

IIRC he made that comment during the 1979 tourney. KSTP had gotten the rights to the tourney that year and 10 days before they tourney that year KSTP became the ABC affiliate for MSP. So to help promote that fact Hubbard brought in many ABC bigshots and Howard was one that was brought in. Also I believe that clip aired in the 2003 documentary Ice Dreams which was about the Hockey Tourney. It airs agian Sunday morning at 3AM and Tuesday at 10 AM and 1 PM. That clip of Howard is part of it.

Are you sure the name of the movie isn't "Frozen Dreams"?
I was probing around and "Ice Dreams" is a Hallmark Channel movie about figure skating.

I didn't play, just attended. My kid is in the IYHA (or I suppose I should say, the IYHA/MVYHA co-op).

Don't think so. Pretty sure Russ Anderson's high school days predate that picture by a few years.
