Private vs. Public

I just want to see a legitimate reason why people out there bash private schools so much. So to everyone that dislikes private schools, why?

<img src=

How many times do we have to go over this?? OR How long will it take this one to be locked up? I'll say the next time Lee gets on.

Okay, we can do this one of two ways:

1) Mitch or I lock the thread and delete it every time someone takes the issue up without understanding the history of this "issue" or...

2) We hash it out in this topic only, with the clear understanding that if this topic spills over into any other topic, Mitch or I delete those posts.

Preferences? I'll be in contact with Mitch to see what he thinks, of course.

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

bad, bad topic, but i think its a misunderstanding. and that goes both ways. private schools are misunderstood as rich and public schools are misunderstood as trashy. i think thats at the heart of it...and it showed at the 2002 state tournament in section 206
"daddys money" and "trailor trash" chants made that pretty clear.

not to say that the misunderstandings dont have a solid basis, but they are blown way out or proportion.

There are a lot of reasons:
1. Private schools are often associated with a religious order, people believe 'these' people have a holier than thou attitude.
2. Private schools are usually expensive so people believe these programs are for the rich.
3. Private schools (to some extent) recruit students to their school. People believe this flows over to recruiting hockey players based on their hockey skills.
4. People believe MN High School Hockey is about playing for your home town. The home town does not come and cheer for AHA.

I am sure the list is longer, but cannot put more thought into it.

The above message is the thoughts of some (maybe many) but not necessary the opinions of the messanger.

Edited by: <A HREF=

PuckU126, I understand. I'm just saying that maybe having this one single topic to handle it will prevent the issue from poisoning and hijacking so many of the other threads, as we've seen happen in the past. So, maybe confining it to this thread will be more constructive (or destructive, depending on ones bent).

Lee

____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

Lovin' the Catholics

I'm lovin' the Catholic schools.

I, being a St. Cloud local and a Cathedral alumni, know that CHS has been around for over 100 years. It is a hometown St. Cloud school. IMO, people from Cathedral have more pride in playing for a Cathedral sports team than the "city" teams, Apollo or Tech.

2A

It's different though in St. Cloud because they dont bring in players from players outside the city. Or at least I haven't heard of them bringing in players from outside St. Cloud to play at Cathedral. But at AHA no kids or very few come from the Richfield Youth Association. I'd be alright with all of these private schools if there players came from the town the private school is in.

Edited by: <A HREF=

Richfield is no where near the size of St. Clouds association. Richfield is extremely small, I can see the association combining with Minneapolis or Bloomington to keep afloat in the next 5 - 10 years.... JMO. This is no offense to Richfield, I love it here and my kids go to the schools here, but the numbers do not lie.
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Since I did not grow up in an association, how many kids are usually trying out for a bantam team and how many are usually picked to play on a team?
Richfield had 18, how many should make the team.
3 lines = 9
2 goalies = 2
5 or 6 D = 5 or 6
total 18 - 19 and that is not with any extra forwards.... What is correct?
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

The only time folks show displeasure towards private

schools is when they win the state tourney just like they

do when Edina and Jefferson and the rest do.

There are plenty of private schools as well as public

schools that you never hear much about one way or the

other because they don't win enough to get noticed.

It's the WINNERS and their FANS they dislike.

Not the schools..PLAIN and SIMPLE...

I remember a day when the nice folks from the public

schools said the private school teams couldn't hold a

candle to the public school teams.

Of course, there were two different tournaments back

then.

It's the American way!

Once you're on top, some folks love to take you down!

And you don't get much attention until you finish on top!

Public vs Private is irrelevant.... <img src=
