St. Paul Johnson in 1984. They lost to Bloomington Kennedy in the semifinals before eventually losing the third place game with Hibbing.

The question was best program, not best team. Johnson won it four times.

Not sure if you mean never make it to the championship game or never win a championship. South St. Paul has never won the big one, though they've been in the championship game a couple of times. Otherwise Cloquet would be a good answer.

Best program never to make a state championship game

One would have to look at Eden Prairie. Their youth program has had great success in the past 15 years, taking home a lot of hardware including state championships.

However, when they get to the Varsity level, they are alway in the top 10, but they seem to fall short of getting to the state championship games.

Yes, they come through a tough section (6) and when they seem to be a top contender, it seems like either Edina, Jefferson, and Wayzata have been strong too.

interesting. they even fail to compete, at the varsity level, with all the recruited players the coaching staff has brought in from around the country. something ain't workin. can't help but wonder if your team (parents) brought in a top-shelf head coach. chaska's snuggerrud or breck's chapman might make things happen quicker.

You're either clueless or you have an axe to grind-which is it? You can't be that clueless so I'm guessing it's the latter. Recruited players? Can't compete at the varsity level? Truly laughable. Kinda funny how you were so silent after E.P. swept the Edina classic.

Cloquet lost to Bloomington Jefferson in overtime to go to the championship in 1994 or 1993.

Eden Prairie will have a very hard time making a run at state title until they get a competent coach there.

I guess my vote would go to South St. Paul. For the number of appearances over the years, with some of the great teams they had, their program is my choice.

puckfan. i hate to have to pop your faithfull ep bubble, but, the edina classic fielded a weak ensemble of teams. edina's top netminder was absent as well when they played ep. sarslands team was a distant echo of it's former self. the burnsville win on the 30th was a year-end bonus. burnsville was missing 4 starters including their top netminder due to a liquor related suspension. the blaze's top player, oslund, was so frustrated in the game that he took a run at a top centerman, meyer, dinging his shoulder badly. no penalty was called...i could not believe it nor could the ep fans.

i'm clueless? hardly. i've watched this coach for 14 years and have attended nearly all the games. i submit that your clueless for not recognizing the abysmal coaching tenure of you know who. hey, another poster, right after you, hue g can spot it!

the ep players are rich in talent year after year. it's the coaching staff that needs to be replaced with a real coach who is not completely submissive to a core group of parents hell-bent on running things. and you probably know who i'm referring to. oh, i forgot, your clueless about those kinds of things.

Virginia, they have had good teams in the past. They had a 2-1 lead late in the 3rd before Eveleth beat them in the section finals in 1998, Eveleth went on to win state that year.
