Broken Pucks

While viewing the Luverne and Totino consolation championship game I could help but notice something very odd. Three Pucks broke in half during play. I once saw a video of a guy in Europe really wrenching on a slap shot and hitting a pipe from 15 feet away and the puck split. This was not a situation like that. The puck was in a simple pass play all three times i beleve.

Has anyone seen this happen before? Especially three times in one game?

Did this happen during any of the other games at mariucci?

Left outside all winter in International Falls? Or more likely, the MSHSL is on a strict budget, and they imported a batch of cheap imitations from China? ;)

I was at the game and saw two of the instances and I don't think they were broken pucks, looked like each time an extra puck just came into play. the first one I think came out of the goalies pads (maybe stuck in there from warm ups and came loose) not sure about the other one.
I've seen that a couple times in youth games, never twice in one game.

I was there, and it happened 3 times. And it wasn't another puck (which I initially thought as well). The puck split into 2 pieces, the circular way. So it was like having 2 mini pucks from 1.

It was without a doubt, the puck breaking in half the flat way. I was close to the ice and saw it each time.

It was not a foreign object.

Three pucks broke on three separate occasions.

What happens if you score with half a puck...? 1/2 a point?

Actually you get 2 points if both go in. Sort of like the extra point try in football. :)

My son played in the State tourny and received a puck. The pucks were made in CHINA. I can't believe the MSHL would go that cheap route. I have never seen a puck split in half let alone 3 in one game.

I could have understood if it was something like this.

But, it was a breakout pass twice and a simple play the other time. Still very bizarre to me.

"Non Marking" pucks... they are junk. Just like everything from China.
