Shoutout to Anders Lee who is on a tear in his first stretch of NHL games with the Islanders.
Good to see a kid that was talked about not that many years ago on this board doing well.

Can't say I'm super surprised at his success this far. He's been a proven scorer/winner at every level/sport he's ever played at.....8th grader playing HS for STA, back over to Edina his last few years, D1 prospect as a QB in football and baseball...rookie of year in USHL, almost a point a game player over 3 yrs at Notre Dame and did some damage in the A for Bridgeport.
Hope he continues to succeed. Great to see

Remember him as quite the athlete at St. Francis.
Wonder how he'd be doing as a football player...?

If I re-call correctly, he played mite hockey in St. Francis before moving to Edina as a Squirt...think that's what Bo is referencing.

Think he was motivated for tonight's game against the Wild? Dwarfed SOG for any other player, on either team. +\- -1 in the 6-0 loss.
But anyway, yes he had a couple of good first games. I still remember the 2008 title game Hill/Edina. 1st period had just ended and a Hill player bowled him over from behind and took a penalty. Hill dominated that game and that play summed up Hill's physical nature that tourney.

Might have had a year of youth hockey at Edina before going to STA in 8th grade. Not sure.
He used to skate at the outdoor rink next to Benik's house when he was a kid.

Played football with his HS buddies, old school. Budish blew out his knee in football and after that Lucia encouraged his recruits to not play football.

I remember them moving to be closer to a store they owned in the south metro. Might have been squirts, might have been a first year peewee, all I know is that he was a good athlete and people were already talking about him. People were saying they were going to Eden Prairie because of their football tradition, so I was surprised when I saw him at Edina. Maybe Edina might have needed a qb a little more? Obviously a great get for Edina.
Very nice "kid" and family.

And then they also had a kid named Hylok (sp?) in the middle. All three of them were 6 ft 200+ lbs as peewees and looked like men amongst boys on the rink. You would see them after the game and they all had facial hair already, and I kept asking my wife.... "What do they have in their water over in Edina?"

Anders actually played 8th, 9th and 10th grade at STA. Didnt start at QB there they had McMannus who was good. But played real well in hockey with Jordan Schroeder, Nick Larson and Aaron Crandell among others. He may have been close to 6 feet as a PeeWee but wasn't 200 lbs

It wasn't just Budish. It had happened once before when Garrett Smaagaard tore his knee in football his senior year (if I recall correctly, Garrett's injury came in the state title game). I might be leery of it too if I was a college coach and it happened to my guys a few times.
