Looking at the rosters and a few of the top names are missing. section 2 for the 16s and section 6 for the 17s look like toe teams to beat.

Who picked section 4? I don't see any of the top 10 players from there except 1 Hill D and Johnson goalie good luck winning a game with that line up

Ah the season of the "selects". I generally start by looking at the section coaches "selected" and players they "choose" from there high school when looking at the questionable "selections" of teams. You can also look for parents involved as coaches, evaluators, or GMs at the 15 thru Ted Brill level with a few such examples just looking at the 16s and 17s. Any way to give your kid an advantage and get the pass to the round of 54 or NIT I suppose. Weather permitting I'm gonna watch a day of 16s and 17s and will be keeping my eyes open for the volunteer sign up sheet for others that want to help out and get involved making the "select" process better.

Section 1 at the 17 level leads the way with the most single A players on the roster with 13. Seems high based on past years. Average between 16s and 17s looks to be around 6 single A players per team. Should be a decent weekend of hockey for all of us who won't be golfing.

Historically speaking, how heavily scouted is the upcoming Reebok HP Section tourney for the 16's? and for the 17's?
Or, do the majority of scouts wait for the 54's?

It's heavily scouted.
Whether one or the other has more, I don't know.
But there are lots of black Reebok jackets at both
Having said that, many slots are usually taken before the games are even started/finished.

Those black Reebok jackets are the coaches, general managers and evaluators not college scouts.

You're right; by "scouts" I was thinking devaluators

, instead of the literal sense.
Sorry for any confusion OTB987.

No problem. USHL, NAHL or D1 guys attend this or do they wait for 54's?

Hockeymannorth,
Maybe some of those players got a bye to 54 camp. I heard there were several kids who got these.
Evaluator for Section 1 was New Prague coach. Any more questions why so many New Prague players on the roster?

From Minnesota Hockey's "Ask the Expert" series:
http://www.minnesotahockey.org/news_art ... r_id=86082
"When you get to HP, you are evaluated by what you do on the ice, not by who you know or how much money you are willing to pay," said John Perry, Program Director for the Boys’ and Girls’ High Performance 15 programs.
Looks like my campaign for next year's "best tagline" award has gotten off to an amazingly relevant start.

They need to bring in outside evaluators and coaches for this program.... Or having them swap sections would help.
Very little integrity when coaches/evaluators work their own sections.

almost as happy, in reference to your quote, that was the best laugh I have had since..... well I don't know.... the last time someone said these checkbook, handpicked teams had anything to do with the kids performance over the eval sessions. These groups are pretty much picked before the so called selection process even happens and anyone who has ever been part of one knows it. Thanks for putting that out there!

The 16 and 17 programs need some serious revamping. The girls side also including the 15's.
As for John P statement for the boys 15's, that process is a lot more honest and since the evaluators do not have a past history with the players. Besides the evaluators the coaches for each game also rate players.
Hawken I would agree with you on the 16 and 17 but not the 15 boys.

Section 1, 17s had players make the roster who were never at the tryout, hmm wonder if they still have to pay the 80.00 tryout fee.

Greybeard your beard is grey enough to know not to use the word honest in a sentence having to do with any level of these "select" or "high performance" leagues regardless of age level.

Any time you let High School coaches either run or have a major input, there will be trouble. Have been around since before these camps started and the 16 and 17 boys programs have been very suspect. The boys 15 is run completely different. On the girls side used to be ok and then the High School coaches got involved there and it turned to crap. Unfortunately they are still there and the operation is suspect, as noticed by the lower turnout.
If the 16 and 17 were run like the 15's with coaches sending their nominations to a District General Manager and the Districts picked the coaches that would be a start.

You guys talk like the 15's is so nice and lovely!
The Bantam coaches are selected to coach the District team and they pick the District team. You don't think that they aren't going to have preferential interest in some their players from the past season?
I would say that the processes are very similar:
- District Bantam coaches pick the District team.
- High School coaches pick the Section team.
From there a set of evaluators (not the coaches) are in the stands picking the 102 that go to St. Cloud and the final 54 for the 16's and 17's.
Don't misinterpret my statement by saying I don't think there isn't stuff going on behind the scenes but rather my point is that I don't see much different between the 15 process and the 16/17 process.

New Prague was the best team in Sec 1 this year, so that may be why by having the best talent at the tryouts!
