Zepda is a speedster with a promising future and Pryor is the future of the HM defense. (Got to start somewhere) As for the other three, they will remain on JV until they are ready for the Varsity level.

yeah, but zepeda has no chance of ever even getting developed this year. he gets little ice time and is getting no experience.

Dear Checka, Metcalf or whom ever is unhappy with being on JV,

You could say the same for Pryor. He isn’t getting much ice time either. But ice time isn’t everything my friend. Practices are what matters. Skating with one of the best hockey clubs in the state 6 days a week will give you experience.

Getting back to you (who ever you are), stop making these posts talking about how good you are. It shows no class and you obviously have a self-esteem issue. But hang in there buddy, Schaff will take care of you on JV. If you work hard, you’ll get your chance on the Varsity level.

Through the wire...

I've heard that the only reason that Checka isn't playing on Varsity, is because of his grades. Besides that Checka is a good player and has a good future in the game of hockey.

My congrats to Hill's Varsity & JV with the season they are both having. Both teams are undefeated and the program appears to be real solid. Good job boys and continued success.

PuckU126, I dont give a flying flip about who does or doesnt play on the HM varsity but your comment about being able to practice with the varsity interests me.

First, who are they practicing with? Not the first line. They arent practicing with ALL 20 varsity players. Do they work on the PP and PK in practice or is that for the guys who do it in the game?

I agree that practice is a key but it is a game and you have to play it to get better at it. You can watch from the stands after the JV game.

In my humble opinion , I think it is better for these young kids to be key , focal players on a "lower" team than to be "promoted"to the varsity and play bit parts and spend a lot of time on the bench.

You say that these players are the future and you have to start some where. Sure but that somewhere always used to be on the JV...and in the case of freshman..Bantam A. Whats changed? Why do we now develop them as "5 shifts a game" Varsity players?

And PP and PK. All players on the team participate and compete against each other in these drills and they benefit from it. Competing against McCallum, Hoeffel, Leier, and everyone else, will improve these young players in their game.

Quote:
In my humble opinion , I think it is better for these young kids to be key , focal players on a "lower" team than to be "promoted"to the varsity and play bit parts and spend a lot of time on the bench.

I agree with you on this one. But HM coaching staff saw something in these two players. In addition they obviously were not satisfied with any older players for those positions. Sure, some of the young guys come in and contribute right away and play a lot and my comments dont apply to them.

I just dont understand why these days, and in particular this year, we have so many young players sitting and watching when they could and , I think, should be playing on a regular basis., on a lower team.

If these players are getting the full benefit of practicing with the varsity, thats good... but I dont kow if that is enough to offset the lack of playing time.

Again, I agree with you packerboy. They maybe improving their game with practice, but its unfortunate they are not getting as much ice time as they would on the JV level. But in the future they should make-up for lost time. (Hopefully)

As far as i've seen Zepeda has been getting a good deal of ice time for only a freshman. There's no substitute for varsity experience. The time that he has seen he has shown improvement. He is not as strong as the others yet, but he has the skill.

Pryor on the other hand to me does not seem ready to play regularly on varsity, but there is really no other kid that could take his place that now plays on the JV.

The thing with Hill being 11-0, well here is the deal. Look at the teams that they have played so far. They haven't played any real "big threat" team. This is not the same league that we saw last year.

Don't get me wrong, congrats to Hill for going 11-0, knock on wood.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ucker33 at: 1/4/06 7:42 pm

Well if winning the silver division in the Schwanns cup and beating White Bear Lake is not top competition, I guess your standards are a little higher then mine.

Obviously the game against Holy Angels later this month will be the best test of all!

I do not believe it will be the test of all, but it will be a barn burner..... The top two teams in the state going head to head. I'm sorry, but like I said, there was no real big competition in the silver division (yet a championship is a championship). With WBL, this team is not as strong as the past WBL teams. Other power house teams are also not as strong as they once were.

Maybe my standards are higher, I don't know, again these are just my opinions, just like everyone else has theirs, my views may be different that yours.

I agree with you on the AHA game being the best test of the season. This could also be a look at a future game that would take place at the X center later in March (knock on wood).

Ya Checka (sp?) should definetly not be on varsity. If you can't keep a C average, which by the way is not very hard unless you have a learning disorder, then you have no reason to be playing varsity. If you can't even make the committment to get good enough grades then how can you make the committment to work hard in practice and be a leader on your team.

tg -

since when is a "c" average a requirement to be on varsity at hill. yearsley was lucky to have a "d" average and lech kept making exceptions because he "thought" he was a hockey player. by the way, a "c" average at hill is probably the same as an a at most public schools. like it or not that is a fact. also, please clarify your thinking. if you can't keep a "c" average you can't play on the varsity but you can play jv?????

As someone who went to Hill-Murray his freshman year and then transferred to White Bear, I would say an A at a public school is about a B at a private school. Personally my logic behind the C average is that I really don't think you should be playing anything at all unless you have a C average. Especially considering that a C average isn't very hard to get and to me, if you don't have one it looks like you're lazy. My logic about being able to play JV, but not Varsity is that for him playing JV is almost looked at as a punishment, but personally I don't think that would get the message accross. I think you should be off the team unless you have a C average.

hillhockey -

please don't correct me on the spelling of a name i never mentioned. personally i could care less who we are talking about...............if you don't perform in school, you should not play -- no exceptions.

secondly, i will make it easy for you -- the curriculum at hill murray is much more difficult then that of a public school. considering the work required, knowledge of the subject matter, etc. a passing grade (c) at hill would likely be good enough for an "a" at a public school.
