Now that the Panther's #1 goaltender has departed, any other kids from last years State Runnerups also leaving? What should the team look like this year?

The Poehling's have said they'll be back. McNeely was drafted by Tri-City, but I don't have confirmation that he's leaving. If those four are back and they can find a reasonable goaltender, they should make State without too much difficulty. I don't know how they'll do once they get there.

In what part of the Twin Cities does Lakeville North " find a reasonable goal tender"? Do they look South? No they are already recruited a Lake S forward/def man. Do they look at Farmington? Nah, Already did that last year. Maybe they should develop their own players and put Buzzy in the nets!

Poehling's will all be back (Freshman Ryan would have been regardless). Their dream is to win a state tourney. Pretty cool to see elite players in this day and age committed to their community. McNeely only possible question mark but I see him staying. Sadek was also drafted in USHL by Omaha but he is not ready for that pace yet.

Goalie? Don't worry. Void will be filled and will likely give people plenty to whine about.

I believe this would be a attractive opportunity for a elite high school goalie.
However, I don't think a current Hornet fits that player, perhaps a private.

Sounds like rules do not apply at North? Does the AD know what is going on buttend?

Don't know much about Farmington or other 1AA teams for next year, will North have much competition to make it to state?

Rules apply everywhere. Kids sometimes transfer to attractive programs nowadays, that's the reality. They do it within the rules so it's a non story. Well, except to those who enjoy whining about it, of course.

Relax folks. "Buzzy" is a reference to the coach's goalie son who goes by the name "Buzz", and who attends school in Lakeville, it is not a reference to Edina.

Yeah, this was a massive recruiting operation. Most of those Lakeville South kids have never even heard of Lakeville North. It's like a whole different country to them. It takes a well organized, concentrated effort to get a kid to play for a lot better team while staying in the same community with the same family and friends. It's surprising these kids and their families don't think of this on their own.

I'm pretty sure he's being sarcastic in this last post.

They probably have heard of Lakeville North.

As a matter of fact, I think Lakeville North and South were combined at one time. Not sure what they were called, but that's the rumor.

Yes, I was being sarcastic. It wasn't that long ago that Lakeville only had One High School and every kid from Lakeville was together. It was the current North School and they were still called the Panthers. South is a new building. It's nothing for a student in the South to decide to go to North or vice versa. Obviously if you want to play Varsity Sports the family has to move residence if they've already started 9th grade, but certainly not very far and they stay in the same community. Any hockey player who transfers to North has to follow the same rules as everyone else in the State. As far as the Goalie from Farmington last year, I believe he transferred to start his Freshman year, so his family didn't even have to move.

Lets break it down: The kid is very talented and has a bright future in hockey. Farmington isn't very good and Lakeville North is. Farmington borders Lakeville and the family stays right where they are. Hmmmm, probably didn't take much recruiting. I'd say it worked out pretty well for him too.

I still have McNeeley 50/50. Wont know for sure til early Sept Elite startup

Even losing Oett and likely McNeeley, they should still easily win Section 1 again, but nemesis Edina is odds on tourney favorite

Actually Farmington was pretty good last year and the move from the Missota to the South Suburban this year ought to better prepare them for games with North. Early on in their section final Farmington really controlled play and if they had scored on their chances the out come could have been different, the game wasn't anywhere near as lopsided as the score ended up to be. I don't know what Farmington lost to graduation though and their coach stepped down (to coach his daughters team I believe).

South is a crosstown rival so those games can always be pesky. After that the Big Nine teams just aren't very good, North beat Century by 12 last year, South handled Mayo fairly easily and Farmington beat Century, Mayo and Owatonna by a fair margin as well. The addition of Red Wing and Northfield to the Big Nine won't help the 1AA teams at all.

Tweet from Youth Hockey Hub

"YHH getting word that @GopherHockey recruit Ryan Edquist ('98 Lakeville) will enroll at Lakeville North next Fall. Shamwow if true!"

Maybe their should be a Lakeville North "Future Prospects" "Recruits" and "Commitments" Blog/Thread so we can all keep track of whats going on with our team.

Sounds like Edquist is a "commitment" since showed up unannounced and played 3 games with us in a Summer Showcase this weekend.

RS is a "recruit" that played this weekend but he has yet to move into the District.

RS would be a 10th grade transfer from South correct?

My understanding from my Lakeville buds, yes.

If both RS and JO leave south doesn't something have to give over at south?

If the AD stands by and lets it go much further the program will take years to rebuild. Can't blame North for exploiting the situation but its now bordering on comical.

The program will take years to rebuild? Was it ever built? Or was it just the fact that they had a superstar (Kloos) A few very high end players Osterberg, Brevig) and several very good HS players (Wittala, Freemark, Harvey) bunched together in a few year span?

Is it a function of LN "exploiting the situation" or is it the fact that LS kids who think they have a chance at playing at a high level beyond HS are actively seeking this out and realize the probability is slightly increased playing at a higher profile program across town?

JO has what it takes and will be an excellent HS hockey player and beyond. RS has a ways to go before I would consider him a "big loss" for LS. Before anyone gets upset, those are just my 2 cents.

Isn't Edquist at Shattuck? How does he come back to North and be eligible to play? Do they prove some kind of financial hardship or did they move into North school boundaries?

MSHSL should have fun with this one.

He is from Lakeville and has always lived in LN school boundaries.

Even if this goalie lives within the boundaries of LN, doesn't his parents literally have to show financial hardship before he is eligible to transfer and play for varsity? What does the rules say? Anyone?

False. His parents live in the L. South boundary.
