Rumor has it that the freshman defenseman from Hill-Murray is going to play in the U.S.H.L. next season.

His dad has connections, but this rumor is false. He is only a freshman and his play hasn't given himself a name yet on varsity. Plus he would be crushed if he were to play at that level. Where did this BS come from??

it came from a knowlegeable Hill-Murray source.

Nick is one of the best skilled defense players at hill. He is just very young. With 4 defense seniors leaving after the season, why would he leave? He will be in a prime spot next year, with all the ice he needs. He will be just fine. Great player, and did well in the Schwans Tourney.

Great player for the age, but overrated so far by Eaves and Wisconsin. I cannot believe that they already let him accept a scholarship with his size and age. I believe that Schroeder is better and well he has had a lot of attention from schools, he has no WCHA offers yet. I believe that both of these young players will be good college players one day, and unlike Schroeder, Pryor has not yet even proven himself at the Varsity level. We will see what will happen with him over the nest couple of yers, or if he will play juniors or make NTDP.

He has only verbally committed to Wisconsin and I think we all know how players can change their minds at such young ages.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... md>wbmd at: 1/5/06 7:01 pm

Give me a break, he would not last a period in the USHL, although I think Nick is a nice player I thought we were all a little smarter than this.

How are you sayin that these players are verbally commiting to these colleges or getting offers when its against NCAA rules to talk anything about scholorships until their 1st day of their junior year in high school the most that they could have gotten is a letter from the university so the university gets their information in their database.

My 5 year old Termite has verbally committed to the University of Minnesota in 2020. He decided he may need a year in the USHL before he is ready for D-1 hockey.

It was in Charley Walters column (St. Paul Pioneer Press) in late November or early December that he had verbally committed to Wisconsin even though he is just a freshman.

I know, I read the column too. He is a young kid and if his girl friend decides to go to MSU Mankato everything could change.
9th grade is a little early to verbally commit and shows some arrogance on somebodys part.

There not talking to any of the College coaches in 9th grade its a bis fantasy that someone comes up with. There is not a division 1 coach thats willing to lose his job over any 9th grader. Period

i have said it before and will say it again. nick pryor is a very good hockey player for his age. his selection on hill's varsity is an opportunity afforded him based solely on his dad's relationship with lech and his position as a hockey scout and former collegiate and pro player. he does not and will not stand out this year and in my opinion could have benefited from another year of jv logging much of the ice time there. he does not see much ice which tells me that lech is aware that he is weak compared to his competition, is a liability, and has a ways to go to match up with bigger and stronger veteran junior and senior players. as far as committing to wisconsin it is all hype and ego that even has us talking here. lastly, i will just say that nick is no dave tanabe or jason godbout. those two were stars as freshman and i believe were all-conference and at least all-state honarable mention selections.......something nick has no chance to be.........this year.

He's not seeing much ice time because Lechner knows he won't be around next season. His dad has already complained to Lechner about his lack of playing time.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... md>wbmd at: 1/2/06 9:32 am

Verbal commitments are not as valid as they used to be, for a long time coaches never backed out of them because they did not want their reputation tarnished. The last few years there have been several instances where coaches or players backed out of a verbal agreement, in Wisconsins case they originally had Nate Hagemo signed to a verbal agreement and he backed out of it and went to Minnesota.

The verbal agreement does not list any scholarship amount, all it does is prevent other coaches from talking to you ( in Hagemo's case the parents had to contact Lucia) and the only advantage to the Pryor boy that I can think of by agreeing to a verbal at this early time would be that it would raise his stock for selects , Ann Arbor, etc.

Nick deserved the opportunity to play varsity based on his ability and who else was gonna be the next defenseman to make the team. He & Danna were the only real considerations to make the team...pretty easy decisions to make. Nick is practicing against some of thew best forwards around everyday in practice and he will develop much better against that then practicing/playing on the JV. The kid will be fine. Lech & Shaff are doing the right thing and brining him along slowly. He will see more time in the next couple of weeks due to the competition and will be a much better player at the end because of the approach the coaches are taking with him.

If Nick Pryor goes and plays in the USHL you mine as well put like 20 other kids born in 90 in there. He is not that good of a player where only he can play in the USHL, i know for a fact there is kids better then Pryor.

Pryor is in over his head right now. He isn't a bad player but I believe a lot of the attention he has received has a lot to do with his dad. There are clearly better players his age in the state. Not sure what the heck Eaves is thinking on this one.

As for verbal commitments, there can be agreements on scholarship and things of that nature at his age as long as the player is the one who initiates the contact at all times. The coaches can't initiate contact with a player by phone at all until July before the player's senior year. But I would gather Pryor's dad got in touch with Eaves and they worked something out from there.

By the way, the person who said a verbal commitment prevents other teams from recruiting you is wrong. There is no rule that says other colleges have to stop recruiting you if you verbally commit elsewhere. The only time a school has to stop recruiting a player is after he has signed a letter of intent with another school. Otherwise a kid is open game. Of course, most coaches won't recruit a kid who has verbally committed elsewhere since most college hockey coaches had a "gentleman's agreement" with each other in such matters but there is no set NCAA rule that says a kid is off limits once he verbally commits. Players continuing to be recruited by other schools despite having given a verbal commitment happens quite often in college football.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >Finn70 at: 1/2/06 3:41 pm

Personally, I think Nick should just go out and enjoy the game and listen to his coaches while working to prove himself in high school first. His dad should quit putting so much pressure on him.
