At least one, if not both Edina kids were held back, so actually are of sophomore age.

Will any of them contribute to the success of the team?

No idea.....never seen any of them play. I'd assume they are pretty decent if they are on their roster.

With 9th graders being 2nd year bantams, how do most associations handle this? Do these 9th graders make their AA Bantam team and then try out for HS? What if they don't make the HS team, do the bantam teams even have to take them back? Most hs tryouts start several weeks after the bantam teams are formed, curious how different associations handle this.

Typically for bigger associations the kids know ahead of bantam tryouts if they are going to make the team. That being said they usually don't try out then. However, as long as the player signs up for bantams does the tryouts they can still play bantams pending they tryout for HS and don't make it.
IMHO unless the kid is going to be a top 6 forward or top 4 D I really don't see the benefit of going up.

Variety of ways. Some kids didn't even tryout for AA, so they must've had an assurance they were going to make Varsity, or a strong idea. Conversations I'm sure have happened between player and HS. I don't think kids would roll the dice and play JV. Some kids go play AA or A for a few weeks, then make HS team, and leave.

Hoen was on the MSHSL roster when I looked on the 18th. Don't know what happened after that.

He could be one of those guys who will play some varsity while being primarily JV. Unlike the last couple of years it looks like BSM is playing some conference games (West Metro) which should provide some opportunities.

Or he could be playing JV and not Varsity, BSM lists 37 players on the MSHSL website.
