I'm excited for the season start and I am glad to live in Maple Grove and have access to watch this tournament on Twelve TV.

After 2 periods:

Edina 9
Holy Family 0

The next game should be more competitive.

Edina wins 11-0...not exactly a thrilling start to the HS season.

The Hornets aren't going to miss a beat despite the departures. The Wait-Dornbach-Masterman line accounted for 7 of the 11 goals, if my math is right. But, as usual, there wasn't much of a drop-off when the 3rd and 4th lines hit the ice. Boe looked very sharp as well, particularly on one big save when it was still 0-0.

Holy Family looked like they'd make it interesting for the first few minutes, but after the first couple goals went in, the wheels came off. The moment a team starts to press once they're down early, the Hornets smell blood, and they start coming in wave after wave of odd-man rushes. HFC couldn't keep their composure, and it was open season on Heifort (and, later, Stauber) after that.

HFC has one line with lots of talent, but they weren't especially cohesive, and on several occasions individuals tried to force their way through the middle of the Edina D, promptly creating odd-man rushes. There's talent there, but they have a long way to go.

3-1 Wayzata after 2

Lots of penalties in this one so far. I missed the first period, but Wayzata looked better in the 2nd despite being on the penalty kill much of the period.
Wayzata was down 1-0 after the first but scored about 30 seconds into the 2nd and took control from there.
The first goal was a little soft for Wayzata, as it trickled by Maple Grove's goalie, while the Trojans 3rd goal looked like goaltender interference.

Maple Grove was sloppy in the 2nd, passes off the mark and trying to dance through the D of Wayzata. Their Powerplay also struggled, going 0-5 I believe so far. The Crimson have been skating it in, but Wayzata will quickly take it away and clear the zone.

Shots 21-12 in favor of the Trojans

Fetrow, Sorenson and Senden had the goals for Wayzata

Passolt scored for MG in the first

Final: 4-1 Wayzata
Shots according to Hockey Hub: 29-21 Wayzata
Paterson with the goal in the 3rd for Wayzata

In the two periods I watched I was impressed with Wayzata in all aspects. We know about their solid D and goaltending, but offensively I thought they looked fast and passed the puck real well. Schilling was great in the two periods I watched, he didn't give up many rebounds and had great positioning. Their Powerplay generated a lot of chances and I liked that they had Zimmer up at the point and Sorenson down on the wing. Zimmer did a good job getting attention on to himself before he made a pass to an open player.

Maple Grove looked like they were playing in their first game, so I don't think there is too much to worry about. They just didn't seem in sync with passes and needed a little more time to get comfortable playing together.
I think if they capitalize on a few of their many PP chances, this is a different game. Of course, part of the issue there was that Maple Grove took a penalty while on the man advantage 3 or 4 times.

I watched the game on twelve.tv and it was a pretty good stream, but I think I will try to be at the games in person tomorrow

Holy Family has no depth. They have 1 good line and it really drops off sharply. Edina could have put up 15 or more if they didn't call off the dogs after 2. Malmquist line had zero shifts in 3rd.

Edina is excellent. Like I said back in April, it's them and everyone else. minnscout put it best, they could have put 15 on HF. HF is very very overrated. I know its November but other than one line they have very little. Matt Anderson is gonna be great up at UMD. Have a hard time seeing anyone upending Hornets in their bid for a 3 peat.

One game in and we are anointing the green. Probably accurate call but a little early.
