Any media coverage of tonights tilt? I've watched some of the video on youtube of Cloquets games. They are much better than people give them credit for, and they seem to have a group that is buying into Esse's style of hard work and sound defense.

CLOQUET GAME RESULTS:

Hopefully their sound defense will show up in the Rapids game, but thus far it's hard to see in their game results.

Looking at it from results only is seeing things in one dimension. I look at things from a more multilayered perspective. For example, Esse admitted Duluth East has far more skill and Cloquet led in that game 1-0 about half way through and East pulled away late. I watched their game vs Forest Lake on youtube courtesy of Kniven. Thought they played with good intensity. I would not want to face the Jacks in the quarterfinals. Sure they may not have the team to win 3 straight in the playoffs, but they have the kind of team that could even upset Elk River in a one-game scenario, as they've done in the past and I believe that was as a 7 seed?

They had ER on the ropes last year, That's why the top seed is important not going to lose the 1-8 game. Important game for GR.

2-0 CEC after 1.

Rapids was pouring on the goals when they had Mattson, Adams, and Bischoff on the same line. Starting to wonder why they changed that up going into the Edina Classic. Not surprised to see CEC playing well on their home ice.

3-0 Cloquet after 2.

3-0 after 2. I knew Cloquet was a decent team, just hoped it wouldn't manifest tonight. Rapids seems to be, according to the broadcast, not taking shots on great scoring chances and making too many passes in that situation. Gotta stop trying to win games that way and start going for rebounds and ugly goals.

Mattson scores from Drake Anderson. Rapids putting a lot of pressure on this period.

Congrats to Cloquet on the win. Big game for them as they look to get a top 4 seed. Rapids is really starting to look like a team that's gonna be traveling to the Twin Cities in the quarterfinals. I get losing to Edina, Lakeville North, etc. But unacceptable to wait until the 3rd period to give best effort in a section game.

One thing I was wrong about on CEC, if Koby Bender plays like that consistently, then yes they can win 3 straight in Feb. and go to state. Don't listen to Northwoods anyone. Elk River is not a clear cut favorite. Any of the teams 2-7 could beat them in sections. Forest Lake could really throw a wrench into things if they win at home vs the Elks on Saturday. Then we'll have a huge mess on our hands.

That line put up huge points against unranked opponents in first four games. Then came Warroad, Marshall, and LN before the line changes.

I would presume the switching of lines was in hopes of creating more balanced punch against the tougher teams that have followed on the schedule. To date, that has not been enough to offset other larger issues that they need to solve before sections.

Bemidji and Forest Lake are unranked, or were at the time. Their 13 combined goals against them still are impressive as they are both quality teams no matter how you slice it. I actually like the idea behind changing up the lines to balance out the scoring and there is plenty of time to let it play out. But there might come a time when in a big game it might be better to reunite that top line. The biggest issue I see is defensive zone coverage, though not nearly as bad as last season, and undisciplined in terms of taking too many penalties. I still like the upside of this team and have been very impressed with Micah Miller and John Stampohar. I also like Daulton Anderson's game and how he generates offense from the D position.
