JP Parise RIP

Even though this a HS hockey forum losing JP feels like a loss from your own family. Was such a big part of our history and current hockey culture.

I couldn't agree more. J.P. was my favorite North Star when I was growing up. Very sad news. My condolences to the entire Parise family and friends.

Most people here are probably aware of JP's part in the 1972 Summit Series with Team Canada, his time with the North Stars, and his role in making Shattuck's hockey program world class while raising a young hockey phenom.
Here is an interesting read about his time as a New York Islander helping lay the groundwork for their dynasty.

A sad day for the state of hockey.
Most old timers will understand the impact JP had on Minnesota hockey. Back in the late 60's and early 70's JP and many of the North Stars inspired an entire generation of kids to pick up sticks and start playing hockey. Prior to the NHL coming to town hockey wasn't nearly as big as it is today. Outside Minneapolis, St. Paul, Edina and the range hockey wasn't real popular. The NHL came to Minnesota and about 13 years later dam near half the 80 Olympic team is from our state, it didn't happen by accident.

Prayers to the Parise family, he was one of my hero's!
I have showed the whole 72' Summit Series to my boys and use this clip to talk about properly restraining emotions which JP clearly did!! JP was and will always be a beauty!!!
