Are there any plans of updating Aldrich Arena? It is really starting to show its age.

What do you mean? It just got brand new, state-of-the-art, pull-out-all-the-stops locker rooms and coaches offices this year.

The inside is okay. The outside is looking rough.

Not sure what you're talking about. It has always been kept up and very clean. It's been a great place for high school hockey for more than 50 years. Still is. Great sight lines. Loud when full. Looking forward to Section finals in there in a few weeks.

Great place to watch a high school game. Not a fan of the lone exit but looking forward to seeing maybe a HM vs WBL showdown instead of at the 492 seat capacity Vadnais Heights Junk Heap.

They don't let you leave out the sides?

What is there for places to eat or get a drink around Aldrich? Anything within 5 min?

Yes several good spots a mile north on White Bear Ave. by Maplewood Mall. Recommend Jake's on Beam Ave. Chili's is across the street. There's a Carbone's with great pizza at WB Ave. & County Rd C ever closer.

Beats the hell out of Vadnais and the Coliseum.

Lone exit? There are doors all around the arena.

Lone exit must = the parking lot, not the arena.
When will stubhub start selling tickets for the playoffs, I got a couple hundred saved up.

Highly recommend Angelos Pizza at WB Ave and Larpenteur!

I second sachisi's recommendation for Angelo's. Great pizza, good price and their cheese bread is excellent.

There are a lot of ways out of Aldrich. You just have to be willing to drive over the small snow bank and curb.

They just recently removed the outside steps and replaced them with ramps. Also painted outside not too long ago. If you are talking about the dirt area on the west end, that is where they dug up for the locker rooms. They will finish that off in the spring.

And a funky 70's atmosphere.
Also the adjacent best Steak House isn't bad.

Even though it is old, the designers knew what they what they were doing. Still one of the best high school venues in the state. Since the 60's, (showing my age) I have seen some great games there!

If it wasn't for the 2 hour drive, it would be awesome to have Hill Murray vs WBL in a sold out Amsoil Arena in Duluth.

The one wonder that I have is why didn't whoever built Vadnais build it as a replacement for Aldrich...with a legit Arena that held 2,000 plus...they missed the mark on that project big time.

It was not built as a replacement for Aldrich. White Bear was not involved in the building of Vadnias, they just rent space there.

I love that place, but it's been years since I've been there... Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 or so. Are they still hand mixing the salad in a giant Rubbermaid trashcan? That's when you know you're in a classic East Side joint.
It was good salad, man.
