Kind of odd timing for this, although we don't know the details. http://strib.mn/1DpEatM

Huh, really weird.

And not to be the one to throw out rampant speculation, but I feel like this was something scandalous. He's an ambitious guy but timing of the move seems to preclude moving up in the coaching ranks.

I suppose the school can't comment"citing data privacy laws". Ridiculous laws!! Media should be able to file FOIA request/lawsuit in these cases.

FOIA laws don't apply here... SPA is a private school.

Why would it make a difference if it was a public school? :?

It makes a difference because the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Minnesota's Government Data Practice Act (MGDPA) only apply to public authorities. The FOIA and MGDA do not apply to private companies or organizations. The primary purpose behind the FOIA and MGDA is to make sure public taxpayers and citizens have access to government data, with certain exceptions. This requires public authorities to be mostly transparent in their activities, which is supposed to increase trust in the system. As a private entity, neither the FOIA or MGDA apply to SPA. That said, even if SPA were a public school (which it is not), a request for information about the departure likely would fall within an exception because it involves a personnel issue. This means while some information might be released, other information would be deemed protected and not subject to disclosure.

My understanding is that SPA sent an email out to parents informing them that the resignation was voluntary. It is section time. Best of luck to SPA as they go forward. They have had a nice season.

Nothing has been released to coaches players or parents, so anyone close with the team is just about at the same level the rest of the state is. Looking at hockey_is_a_choice's statement, and seeing how the head of school has reacted to the situation, I doubt the reason will ever be officially announced, so theres not a lot to dwell on right now for the coaches players or parents - besides getting past sections.

Just one Guy's opinion...if a certain windmill throws his hat in the ring for an interim position they will be playing at the X!

Good luck to the team and the parents! Hang tough together!

Unfortunately, I agree with you.

I don't believe it to be good news for anyone involved.

Even silent on the HS coaches front ... no one has anything on this.

Choice: The Data Practice protections extend beyond public schools. HIs medical condition would be protected health data. If the school received info from the police, that could be protected. If a minor is involved, that could be protected. The MSHSL is a state body, so information would also be protected if they are investigating him.

I know nothing about this situation. It looks bad, but it might not be. He might be helping a a sick family member. It could be a million things and not all of them mean he is a bad guy. By what I read, he resigned and was not fired.

The lack of publiic result means if there is any disciplinary matter, it is still under investigation,. So its probably not worthwhile to speculate. Let's just let the process take its course. (Remember Mankato).

Not sure what you mean here? I am pretty sure this has to do with something more than just recruiting.

I am not going to speculate on what happened, heard rumors of the reasons but common, if there was a good reason for the resignation we would have heard about it. [-( [-(

Recruiting and what else? So there was a bad reason for the resignation?

What?

You guys really think a hockey coach in this state would get pushed out for recruiting?

Only if he/she were not good at it...

This doesn't make any sense, SPA has won 21 games.

There are two new players on the SPA team this year in contrast to last year and one of them isn't playing due to eligibility problems. SPA administration certainly cares more for academics than athletics so recruiting most likely wasn't a problem in this case.

I know, but I no say...

But it had nothing to do with recruiting.

The assistant coaches don't know the reason either, because the AD wouldn't tell them. They were plenty pissed.

So you know more than the Ast Coaches? Must be the AD?

Can you give a little something more?

I'm not the AD. I know a person who witnessed the exchange when the coaches were told.

I'm actually kind of surprised the former coach didn't discuss the situation with his assistant coaches before leaving. In my experience those relationships are pretty close.
Of course we are assuming that Goldy is correct and they really don't know rather than are respectfully staying out of it.

I have no idea what they know now NTMH, or whether they've had contact with the former coach.
