Who does the shots on goal?

What is with all of the homer shots on goal totals. I decided this year to chart shots on goal during games that I watch. I can't believe some of these totals--The worst arena I have seen is at Elk River--2 games and not even close. The opposition never gets credit for all of the shots they take. One game in particular was really bad--off by 11 shots between the paper and my totals. I have heard rumors of this in the past but never believed it was as bad as people told me. The best arena I have found so far this year has been Aldridge arena. Any comments from the gallery? Any good reasons for this?

I know that when AV played Duluth East (at East) it appeared that they didn't give East credit for all the shots they took. One guy told me that they were off by ten shots in the second period alone. I don't know who is responsible for the totals. I'm hoping it's not just someone like the student manager sitting in the crowd that's counting.

I assume it's the guy running the scoreboard. I know the people who do the scoreboard/penalty box at BIG both work for the school district (one's a teacher, one's the school psychologist). I think they do a pretty good job. But, I do agree that at some places they seem to just be guessing. It seems to me that their priorities are a bit misplaced, too. Though you'd like the team you support to outshoot the other team, wouldn't you want to give the away team credit for as many shots as you can, just to get your goalie's save percentage up? I'd be really irritated if I played goalie at a place where the away team's shots aren't counted very well so my save percentage is lower than it should be.

In warroad, the person that does the shots on goal more often than not puts up shots that shouldn't even be counted as shots. They count little ones that say riccochet off the boards that was intended to be an iceing, but hit the net. They've counted shots that hit the goalie but the play was called offside. Maybe the score keepers should attend the interpertation meetings also, along with coaches and officials

The guys running the scoreboard probably have the poorest seats in the house to count shots by. Sitting at ice level, screened by a linesman much of the game. I would hope that they do the best they can and are impartial, but they do have the poorest angle to do this.

I have been to rinks that the goal judges keep track of saves. I think they end up missing a lot of the scrum saves that are in front of piles. I think having someone up higher in a press box is probably the best spot but not all rinks have that option. Just a my opinion.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">
Ram Hockey

L ve worked in the box alot and you here alot of....was that a shot?...should we give it to em?.....I missed it did you see it? I think they try hard but have the worst angle of the game. Face it all that counts is who gets it in the net the most by the end of the game.

At Princeton, the person running the box does, and we have are own statiticians. They are always very close to the same, sometimes they will be 1 or 2 off but you cant see everything no matter how hard you try. The stataticians also come with to the road games incase areanas do that to the shots on goals and stuff like that, we usually go by our stataticians marks.
Good Teams Would be Nothin without Good Water.....

Two people are usually assigned to announce and keep score. The announcer usually confers with the scorekeeper and they decide. There are some rules that are supposed to be followed. It used to be MSHSL (don't know if this is still accurate), that a shot would only be counted if the shot was taken from the centerline in. Even though many goals are score on the freaky attempted icing or just trying to clear the Zone, these were not supposed to be considered a save or shot on net. If a netminder stopped a puck that was going wide of the net it is not to be considered a save or sog. That leaves alot of margin for error or discression. I know I wonder alot of times when I look at the scoreboard or hear the announcer at the end of a period. (How could that be) I know a lot of kids that have been statisticians for their teams and they contend that most of the time the shots aren't right according to the way the coaches have explained to them what a shot is. I am sure the coaches want the info accurate or they wouldn't' bother with kids taking stats.

gold313 and videoscout have said it all. The person running the clock puts the shots on goal on the clock and has the worst seat in the house to do this. It is a matter of opionon who is getting screw. The goalie or the defenseman on shots on goal. The prefect world would haver someone high above each goalie, who wasn't a parent of a goal tender or defenseman counting the shots

The biggest homers in the state have to be at the Champlin Ice Forum. If CP gets a shot on goal, 3 go on the board. It funny, or kinda sad, Hawkins like. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">
