A lot of discussion about A teams that people think should move up to AA, privates that should only have the option to play AA, and so on.

Just a thought, and I bring it up only for discussion purposes, because I seriously doubt the MSHSL would do something like this, and it almost smells like the old tier system from the early 90's.

Professional Soccer has the Premier League. It based on how teams perform. I am not a huge soccer fan, but I think the concept is something like the top performers in a lower league get promoted to the Premier League, and the bottom performers from the Premeir League get relegated back down to the lower league. This is done season-to-season. The make up of the teams in the Premier League changes every year.

I don't care to take the time to hash that out for MN HS Hockey, but it is food for thought and discussion. For all I know, you all have hashed this out years ago.

I think this could be good, though I'm not sure how you'd do a post-season tourney.

In most Euro soccer leagues the top leagues simply plays two games against each opponent and the season ends with a champion. All the teams in the pro structure also play in a domestic cup competition.

This might destroy competition and increase player movement. I'm not sure, for example, how many kids would enjoy playing for a "Division 4" team if a "Division 1" team was five miles away. You'd see 9th grade player movement like never before.

In fact, now that I think about it, this structure would likely destroy the association model. The successful English squads have the most money. Small teams that make it to the top league (Fulham and Wigan are great examples) had tons of money from a private owner.

I agree with all that you said.

I would suggest that the top 32-teams would make up the Primier League, and would play as the AA level in a completely ranked playoff system, much like NCAA basketball.

The rest would be in A. The top 5-to-10 teams from A would move up to AA the next season, with an even exchange from AA to A.

Would this create problems? I do not think it would be any worse than it is now.
