Jake Jaremko. Very deserving, would probably give it up for trip to the tourney with his buddies.

Congrats to Jake. Well deserved. Gave up the chance to go to USHL to give a go for the tourney with his buddies. Glad he won it!

Yes, congrats to Jake. I hope it's some consolation for the cruelty the Hounds have inflicted upon him. Seems like a very good kid, and I wish him the best as his career continues.

Congrats to Jake! Good for him sticking with his squad too. Best of luck at Mankato.

Third year in a row that Mr. Hockey isn't headed to the Gophers. I'd like to see that trend pick up again in the next few years. Understandably, a lot of the Gopher recruits are skipping out on their senior seasons, but I'd like to start seeing Minnesota's team start to get Minnesota's best again.

So Minnesota State isn't a Minnesota team? Time to clean off your maroon colored glasses. The gophers are no longer the "default" D1 team to follow. Plenty of kids grow up with the dream of playing at the school nearest them or where their parents attended.

Nothing wrong with Mr. Hockey Minnesota choosing to play at Minnesota State.

The metro team...

NOT Minnesota's team.

I'm honestly a St. Cloud State fan because I grew up in the area, but I know there are far more gopher fans in the state and the long standing tradition of Mr. Hockey going to "Minnesota's Team" was cool to watch. Jaremko's case is definitely better than the last two however because he is staying in Minnesota. You're right, that is definitely a good program to support. But when the best kid is getting out of their home state that has 5 D1 schools that is concerning to me.

Which is reasonable. It's fair to say a majority of high school players grow up idolizing and wanting to play for the Gophers, but it is all situational. Jaremko will likely play a year or two in the USHL before coming to Mankato. Has to be taken into account the success of the other programs though...SCSU made the Frozen Four two seasons ago, UMD with a national title in 2011, Mankato was #1 for 5-6 weeks this season and just won the MacNaughton Cup. Even Bemidji is playing real good hockey right now. Jaremko might have felt going to Mankato would have been his best opportunity to be a top six player on a successful in-state team.

I'm amazed that the theory that every kid wants to play at Minnesota continues to survive. Gersich, Lucia, Guentzel, Hurley, Poganski, Boeser right of the top of my head have said NO in the last couple years, I'm certain there are more. That mentality worked in the 80's and 90's but I don't buy it anymore.

By no means is it every kid, as you pointed out there are many that go elsewhere. I think if you take a look at the development of some of the players who were great high school players but average Gophers, it makes sense. Not sure what the issue is, but the U continually has great high school players who look to have good college careers ahead of them be buried on the 3rd/4th line. I can only really speak for MSU because it's the team I get to see the most, but they have a handful of gritty role players, which is what the Gophers have missed for years. They've had some skilled players turn into role players, but no one who had that role prior to coming in (Maybe Serratore). Mankato, especially now with Hastings as coach, looks to the older junior guys and finds guys who have flown under the radar (C.J. Franklin) and they turn out to be good college players. The Gophers get by far the most attention in the state, which can be appealing to young players. But I think now players are seeing they can go elsewhere and not battle against 10 different guys who are goal scorers for a top six role.

Better pull the wedgie out of your panties.

We'll take the Twin Cities population. You can have that "abundant" crop of talent around Central MN that may pull for the Huskies.

Every kid is a bit much, wouldn't you say? Even in the 80s and 90s the Gophers didn't get "every" kid they wanted. They did (and still do) land the vast majority of the kids they go hard after. But there will always be exceptions. Nobody is ever going to bat 1.000

PS - Bringing up Jake Guentzel or Mario Lucia is about as laughable as it gets considering their own fathers really preferred they go elsewhere. Especially Mario.

None of this really matters in the grand scheme. It doesn't guarantee anything on the next level.

6 MSHSL recruits, 5 from the metro, 4 Mr. Hockey finalists, NONE are from central MN and ALL have connections to SCSU. I think Husky Nation is doing just fine thank you very much.

...and no wedgies when you go commando!

And how many of those players had their closest D1 team offer?

Don't bother responding when we both know the answer to that one.

Does that matter if Ahcan turns out to be a better collegiate defenseman than Sadek? Nope. It just means that SCSU recruiters may occasionally know what they're doing. You can't blame the Huskies for Gopher misses.

Hey don't worry, GopherBlog is a little grumpy right now with Gophers on verge of potentially not making the NCAA's.

Hmm... I think we'll take our chances on that one. Especially considering Ahcan makes Aaron Ness look like the size of Erik Johnson.

1) This is a thread on Mr. Hockey, so lets get it back on track, and celebrate Jake and his accomplishment.
2) The Gophers stink, they have too much talent each year to be this trashy. I won't follow them until Lucia is gone.
3) The gophers currently have Cammarata on their team and he makes my 5 year old cousin look big.
4) I would rather have Ahcan at this moment then Sadek

Amen on the hijacked topic. Jake is in Chicago today practicing with the Steele. Best of luck in the future and thanks for all you and your brothers have contributed to Elk River hockey. You will be defined by this and nothing else, great role model.

1) You don't own this board and there is more than one thread on Mr. Hockey here. You gonna whine about multiple posts on that topic too?
2) Three straight conference titles and a couple frozen four appearances in recent years doesn't exactly stink. This year... they have underachieved given their talent. I don't disagree.
3) Cammy is a forward. Not a D like the other guys being discussed. Try following along.
4) That's fine. Everybody is entitled to an opinion... and considering they aren't playing college "at this moment" (and its about projection a few years from now too), we'll have to revisit it. I'll think they are pretty satisfied with who they decided on. 8)
