East Mom Suffers Heart Attack During Tourney

I've used the phrase "Heart Attack Hounds" in jest to describe Duluth East's tendency to pull out very tight playoff games, but there was nothing funny about what happened to Mary Dow, the mother of East forward Luke Dow, during the Tourney. I heard the news at the time, but decided it wasn't my place make it public. Now, however, the DNT has details:

I can only imagine what it must have been like for Luke to play in the championship game with that on his mind (on his birthday, no less). Thankfully she seems to be doing pretty well, and is raising money for a 5K that supports research for the poorly-understood condition that caused the heart attack:

It's another reminder that, amid all of the fun and games, there is often something more serious going on. All my best to the Dows.
