Why are some rosters less than 12+6+2?

My guess on the 17's that some sections either weren't recorded right or parents didn't want to shell out the money. Your guess may be better than mine.

I just sent the site out, I'm just the messenger here.

Less interest in some section areas? The HP 16's look full, it's the 17's where some numbers are lacking. Section 2, 3, 6, and 8 are missing full boats. Was anyone at these tryouts to comment?

Girls are getting older and some might believe they don't have a good chance to make the roster (same with parents), so they don't do it. If not already signed up through USA Hockey (and most high schooler's are not), the total fee for a 3 day, 4.5 hour tryout was $130 ($50+$80). If you don't think you have a good shot to make it, why pay $130? More might tryout if the price was lower, but the high fee weeds out many kids that might show up to give it a shot, but really have no chance.

Looking at the HP 16's, 66% of the girls listed on the current rosters were on an HP 15 roster last year (105 girls). Section 8 had the most returners to HP (18 of 20), where Sections 2 & 3 had the least (9 and 8 respectively). The other 5 sections had between 13 and 15 returners.

As for the HP 17's, of the rosters that are currently listed (150 girls total), 109 girls (or 73%) return from a section roster last year. A few girls jumped from one section to another for whatever their reasons. In any case, here's the breakdown by section:
#1 - 16 of 20 returners - 80%
#2 - 12 of 16 - 75%
#3 - 11 of 16 - 69%
#4 - 13 of 20 - 65%
#5 - 17 of 20 - 85%
#6 - 13 of 19 - 68%
#7 - 16 of 20 - 80%
#8 - 11 of 19 - 58%

These numbers show the turnover rate is not nearly as much as MN Hockey may want people to believe.

Where did you find last years rosters? Can you post them or a link to them? I'm curious.

Below are the links. The 2015 HP 15's are not posted yet. Most districts have only made their first round of cuts (I believe).

Yes, ten bucks this year. Twenty for a weekend pass. Not sure about student rates.

With MN Hockey being too busy rolling around in their pile of HP money and gate fees, they've forgotten to update their website for ALL the 16 and 17 games yesterday. Does anyone know scores? I'm out of town this weekend, and have only received Section 5 updates. The 16 team lost to Section 2 yesterday 3-2 in OT. Maybe the first round scores on the web were free, and pay-per-view after that? Probably $10 per game, or $20 for all.

There is updates on the boys side on the Hub, not sure what is going on with the girls. The fact that they can't use some of the fees to limit gate fees is a joke. I see your section 5 group was upset by the much maligned section 7.

I couldn't even find the bracket matchups for today. Maybe someone here will post the final results? (Yes the forum is more punctual and reliable than the HP hosts.) Isn't it difficult to chirp the number/quality of scouts who will attend and then not post the info the scouts need in order to attend???

Web site showing Section 5 over Section 6 in the third place game, 4-2 final. 36guys kid nets 2 in the loss. My sources have Section 7 winning the final 6-2 over Section 4. Section 7 with a roster of zero committed players and all public school attendees wins the title, go figure.

Thanks Shaver. I assume your results are the 17s. Congratulations to the victors and to all who made the teams. 16s anyone?

Are there really more than a handful of 17s who have commited already? Those teams are 10th graders right?

17's are '98 birth year, so they are mostly Juniors or Sophomores. Looking thru the roster I counted 22 commits-slightly more than a handful....

Thanks u12. I was thinking the 17s were sophs, 16s were freshman, and 15s in 8th, not that they were genuine birth year teams.

The black coats picked the 54s on the boys side and put on website and then the Wild game started.

Every single festival player - what 8x20? - should go on and register immediately. The final 160.

See what happens when you take a roster of public school all-stars? You win titles...

I actually laughed. Clearly the festival games didn't matter much. Question, how many 16s and 17s spots skipped last weekend and made the rosters? I realize MN is talent heavy top to bottom. But after watching this another year it's still disheartening.
