My daughter played in the Super Series last weekend at the U10 level.

I have one observation in particular that I'll bring up here. A number of my daughter's friends played in both of these tournaments, and many of them play together in AAA hockey.

The 03 East team in the Selects had a total of 24 penalties over 4 games. My daughter's team in the Super Series had 2, and I didn't see any other team in her division take more than 2 penalties in a game.

So, are you thinking "they" fixed the refs for a U10 girls game ?

no, no, no, no, not at all. Just that there were two different styles of hockey being played at those tournaments.

My son played in the PeeWee Super Series and had a blast. I will say that there was definitely some top end talent in the tourney but it did vary. Was fun to watch.

It sounded like the teams Selects tourney were more evenly matched though.

Thanks for your money one and all! The scouts were jumping out the stands. You all got noticed

Whiner-Why be an ass? Can't a kid play in one of these tourneys because he loves to play? Don't parents have the right to let their kids play in a tourney without someone assuming that they think their kid is the next Crosby? Not every hockey parent is insane or an idiot. There are a lot of us that go into these things with eyes wide open knowing its just a fund raiser for this program or that program. Big deal. In my sons case, he got to play with some very talented kids and had fun and had some success. Now, on to baseball season where the real nut job parents are.

It should be mentioned that the Select and Super Series programs recognize the academic achievement of these athletes as well. Maybe the pro scouts are not tripping over each other, but these are good programs. I have heard all the sour opinions over the years, calling this checkbook hockey and a waste of time. From our experience, it has been great to see many of the best players and families in one place. And hey, some of these kids will play in the NHL.

I agree. My kids always loved these tourneys. Good time for the most part.

Nifty jersey to add to gramma's blanket, meet some new friends, make a new rivalry. Of course it's checkbook hockey, no one would do it if they weren't making money.

Without a doubt cost for four games, a meaningless practice a jersey and socks is expensive, but all of my kids that have played in these events have really had a ton of fun, made new friends and played in some really good games. I know some of the families on our team stayed in St. Cloud and made a fun weekend out of it outside of hockey as well. Scouts??? I am sure I saw several at the 2005 in St. Cloud.... REALLY, it is not always about scouts and whom is watching, especially at the youngest ages. I don't ever recall either of these festivals promoting there would be scouts in attendance either. GEEZ

It clearly is checkbook hockey, but who cares if the kids love it! Haven't been able to figure out what to do with 4 kids jerseys from 15 years. My mom would love that, glad I didnt throw them out!

It's a two headed coin...On one side, any time your kid has a puck on his stick it's most likely a good thing. The jerseys are sweet and dads get to find out what the favorite beer is in other associations. On the other side, these series are usually about coaches kids at center or surrounding their kid with the most talent on the team. Puck movement is rare, shifts are long and kids attempt moves they should never try in a game.

Personally, I'd spend the $200 on water park passes at MOA...I guarantee you 99% of the kids will have more fun there. Yes, even your kid "crazy hockey dad" who's reading this post and saying "not my kid, he can't get enough hockey"... Trust me dad, he can....and is...

We have been going to Selects for years. The hockey? It's Ok, sometimes good, sometimes mediocre. The party around the pool at the Holiday Inn? Now that's second to none! \:D/
