Up untill about 5-10 years ago i'd definately have to say bagley....until then they played outdoors...i don't know if you can get any colder than that...but now i can't really say. <p></p><i></i>

I have always found Osseo's rink to be cold<br>don't foget about Cloquets older rink. <p></p><i></i>

I would definitely give a strong vote to Fryberger and Petersen in Duluth, with a close second/third going to Grand Rapids (might look good in the stands, but on the bench there you might as well be at the North Pole).<br><br> <p></p><i></i>

either the "bubbledome" in fairbault or Minnehaha Academy, both arena's you open up the doors to warm the inside up even its its 10 below. <p></p><i></i>

I never thought Rapids was a cold place as a spectator, or playing on the ice when i rented the arena with a group of friends a few times a year. When I d.j.'d the games the last two years I froze my butt in the announcers/penalty box. They usually have the heaters going above the sections though. I would say the DECC and Chisholm are so warm I don't know how the ice stays frozen. It baffles me. <p></p><i></i>

Up North: Back in the day Bronco Arena in International Falls was a true ice box.<br><br>Metro: Minnehaha Academy. I was coaching a game there in the early 90's and all of our water bottles froze on the bench. <p></p><i></i>

Shoreview arena has to rank up there, a pull barn with no insulation. Mounds View now calls this arena home. <p></p><i></i>

I know it's not in Minnesota ... hell, it's not even in the United States, but the rink in Emo, Ontario, Canada is a true "icebox." <br><br>Elk River's squirts (yes, squirts!) took a "northern tour" one winter, travelling up to International Falls, Emo, and Baudette. To take 17 youngsters on such an excursion mandated perfect logistics. During a pre-trip phone conversation with the Emo rink manager to double-check directions, he reminded me that "It's a cool rink up here, eh, - if it's 40 below outside, it's 40 below inside, too!" <br><br>He was right. Like many rinks, there was a garage door leading to the outdoor zamboni parking; but since we had a "nice day," the garage door was open during the entire game! The weather was sunny, so the natural light bathed the rink beutifully, but the temperature was right about zero. I was opening bench doors for the defense (squirts can't yet jump the boards) and one of the kids tugged on my coat ... "Hey, Coach," he yelped. "What should I do if I can't feel my feet - they're frozen!" The rink re-surfaced after each period, and they actually called the 20 minute period breaks "toe warming time." The mom's in the stands had their coats, scarves, hats, mittens and blankets wrapped about themselves as tightly as possible, and they were actually "huddling" in small groups in the stands!<br><br>Just before the game, the referees skated over to our bench to shake hands with the coaches. They were quite friendly, but just as they skated away, one barked over his shoulder "Slap shots and checking, eh?" In Canada, the squirts check, and take slap shots at the AA level. Our head coach's eyes got wide, and the kids' eyes got even wider. As the game wore on, one of our "D" finally got his chance. The puck's on his stick, he's squared up inside the blue line, and the Emo winger is down in the corner. The kid winds up for the big 'ol slapper, and you know what happened ... whiff! Everybody howled.<br><br>But what hospitality. After the game we had to drive 30 miles to Baudette to play Lake of the Woods later that day. The only cafe in Emo, a mom & pop joint, had burgers and "chips" (fries with vinegar) hot and ready to go for each kid, along with a milk, for like $2.00. The Emo players and coaches spent time just B.S.ing hockey with the kids after the game. It was awesome, even if really, really cold. <p></p><i></i>

I would have to say Freezeberger here in Duluth has to be up there as well as Peterson, and I think it would be tough to argue with Minnehaha Academy, that place was probably warmer without the roof.<br><br>and whoever mentioned the old barn in Cloquet hit the nail on the head. <br><br>Does anyone remember the old bubble in Moose Lake, now that place was cold. <p></p><i></i>

Coldest game I ever coached. <br><br>I took some Pee Wees to Benson for a tournament years ago. Between periods we had to have all the parents come into the slightly heated locker rooms, take the kids skates off, and put their feet under the parents arms to reheat them. The time between periods had to be extended to avoid frost-bite. It was -20 inside the arena, slightly warmer outside as the sun was shining. <p></p><i></i>

Years ago, Baudette, outdoor rink, only the line playing and the coaches were in the box, lines 2-3 were in warming house, coach would signal when he needed line change and players would empty warming house, Shifts were a good 2-3 minutes, as you would skate hard to keep warm and then poop out, go warm up and be ready for next shift. Icicles would form on the helmet due to sweat and cold!!! <p></p><i></i>

new SSP, Winona, old Cloquet, Duluth rink on North side of town. All of these are cold, wet and and have the worst seating in the state. The worst Smelling rink is BIG #1. The Coldest Rink I've ever been to was Emo Ontario. We would have to play with hats on under our helmets. <br><br>While in Squirts we would play the Emo Team which had players with Mustaches. They were always a year or two older than us. It always was a very good hockey game. Since they were a couple years older than us, they knew how to use there sticks. <br><br>Does anybody remember the Ketchup Potato Chips? It was very Bazaar.<br> <p></p><i></i>

The old Shattuck arena in Faribault, they even had signs up that said "NO SLAPSHOTS" the glass would break if it was cold enough. There was absolutely no point in bringing a water bottle, it would freeze 5 minutes into the period. <br><br> <p></p><i></i>

I always thought that the old Baudette barn was pretty darn chilly, the old Gardens in Warroad was also chilly. Spend a day in Nymore in Bemidji you'll definitely want your long-handles and Sorels. But the worst was in Mitchell, SD; an outdoor rink in the prairie, I was reffing alone; the guy who was supposed to show up chickened out; and I had to wear a jacket, hat under my helmet and gloves-and I NEVER wore a hat or gloves reffing-I think it's tacky. Besides being colder than hell it was football on ice as it was Mitchell's first year of varsity aged hockey(I think Mitchell was short-handed all game, it was so bad I couldn't not call em') whoever played them kicked butt like 20-0. Thank GOD for running time. <p></p><i></i>

Two votes here, one for Suck Rapids East Arena and the other the Lumberjacks for Bemidji home rink but they do sell some good chilli to warm you up. <p></p><i></i>

Silver Bay is notoriously cold. that place is freezing..i vote Hibbing as the warmest..little off the subject. <p></p><i></i>

My vote is for Red Lake Falls. That place is a total dump. It would be colder inside than outside. Then on the walls there would be frost and forzen in on them. If it would get warm in there, water would drip from the ceiling. Then along with there cold rink, before they got new boards, you would have there great redneck fans spitting on you when you would skate by their fans. Great rink they got up there in Cardinal Country. HAHA <p></p><i></i>

High school games around the metro are usually plaed in relativley warm rinks but youth is a diffrent story. <br><br>Osseo. We were up there for a squirt tournament and we played an OT game that the kids lost. They took forever to get out of the locker room so I stuck my head in to tell my kid to get going, we are freezing out here. Half the kids were crying ,including mine. I asked the coach what the hell is going on its only a game and we played fine. He said "No, no they arent crying because they lost, their feet are frozen and too cold to take their skates off." Coldest experience ever.<br><br>Also, Fryberger in Duluth; Graham( the older ones); Proctor; and the Ramsey county rinks in St Paul are legendary. <p></p><i></i>

Baudette (Lake of the Woods) is by far the coldest rink in the state. It is so cold in there. Fryburger arena in Duluth is pretty cold too. <p></p><i></i>
