I'm curious to get a count of how many JV's have been cancelled due to programs utilizing the U15 option.

I know that Duluth and Brainerd are both NOT having JV teams, but instead having those potential JV players play on U15 instead.

Are there other teams, like Duluth and Brainerd, who are not having a JV team because they are instead having those kids stay at U15?

Brainerd also bagged their 12U program -- misplaced priorities and selfishness at play

Please explain. It seems either there are enough bodies to play at a given level, or not.

Duluth is a surprise. They weren't great last year but they rocked our association teams at 12s and 14s for at least 3-4 years before that.

Down here in the north metro, we just buddy up with neighboring program if our numbers are down. Sometimes for a year; sometimes we never break up.

15U allows an extra year of youth hockey eligibility, in girls hockey only, so that old 9th graders and 10th graders can choose to play another year of youth hockey at the expense of HS programs -- especially JVs

I have no idea why a program wouldn't offer a 12 program beyond deep number issues

Parents in a "me" culture are who the selfish belongs to

There are quite a few programs that have no JV.

ADs and coaches scheduled to play those programs are left to find other JV teams that are missing traditional JV at 5:00, V at 7:00 matchups. There is extra expense involved in scheduling refs for JV only Monday night games, or sending one bus to the varsity game and another bus to a JV game. There are also lost opportunities in only being able to schedule 20 or 16 or 12 games for your developing JV players.

I also wonder how easily additional funds will come back from the school district when the decision is made to field a JV team again.
