1st game of the year for the Hounds- thoughts on the game? Also they will have a small ceremony for the 95 state champs during the game. [/list]

East has had some clunkers early in the season the last few years and Randolph always has an eye on the being ready for the postseason. Another tough game to predict.

East usually does have a slower start to the season, however they have a strong number of players returning. My only question with East is their goaltending. I think East has a good shot at being really good out of the gate and despite what the rankings say or what Mike Randolph tries to say, they are the favorite in 7AA and a state title contender. Wayzata will be a good test for them as they've played a couple games and knocked off Edina. Sounds like they opened up the offense a bit more than what we're used to. I expect a close game. I'll take East 5-3 with an EN.

Assuming that East starts Meierhoff in net I would say that they are going to be OK in net. He played several games last year and did well. I haven't seen him go this year yet but assuming that he is in shape I think he will be OK. I look for another one of those balanced East teams with a couple of stars on it and the rest of the "supporting cast" to be those rock solid play makers.

Did well in games he played? Like that 5-1 loss to Rapids?

LOL!! DJ your rapids team has enough to worry about with Tonka and BSM coming up. Especially after that great scrimmage Indians put on last week vs BSM

That post had nothing to do with that, just don't tell me a goalie played well in every game when he gave up 5 goals in that game, whether it was vs Rapids or East Grand Forks, or Roseau.

I did not say he did well every game. Overall though (on paper anyhow) he had a decent season.

And I'm not saying he can't or won't be a good goalie this season. The East coaching staff has proven to bring out the best in their goalies so I anticipate he'll be good, at least by the end of the year. I just want to see it and he did not prove himself last year given the small sample size there is to examine.

It is getting to the point you can't give someone the needle anymore without full defensive rebuttal, me included. Can't lose sight of the fact in most cases we are just giving each other the business. The Rapids PR machine revving it's engines but still stuck in the pits after the Bemidji tie. As we know it is just a matter of time, especially with a coach with NHL experience.

Hounds handing it to them. Randolphs boys no joke. Trojans appear to be pretenders yet again. Early yes, but here we go.

Even though the Hounds took it to the Trojans tonight, you gotta factor in that Wayzata played a game last night and East did not. Not that it means Wayzata would have won the game, but I imagine it would have been a much tighter contest if East had played a tough game last night also.

They didn't care about last nights game vs Hermantown. 4 Lines and 8 D rolled.

They are in HS. Not the national hockey league. Bad excuse.

So you don't think it would have been a different game had East also played a game last night?

I don't. They are 16,17 and 18 yrs old. Championship teams get it done regardless. Not an east fan one bit. Think they still would have won 4-1 today had they played last night.

If you think one team playing games back to back and the other having some time off makes a difference on the score then I would counter with this being East's first game.
East playing their first game against a team on their 4th is surely as much as a disadvantage.
But I think Stats is right, they are young kids, none of that really matters
