Avery Peterson

News from earlier today. Avery Peterson will be leaving the University of Nebraska-Omaha hockey team for personal reasons.

I wish him and his family the best and hope one day he will lace them up again. He is a great kid and wouldn't be doing this unless he felt he had to. Sometimes there are things that are bigger than hockey.

His older brother has a terminal disease, correct? This is a sad story and I wish their family the best.

He's going to transfer somewhere closer to Grand Rapids. He'll be enrolling for next semester. Yes, he'll still be playing hockey, eligible the following spring.

I believe you are correct. I knew a couple years ago they were doing some new treatments that sounded like they were working better. Not sure how he's doing now.

I remember FSN did a story on the family and their son's illness. (I think it was for Hockey Day) I don't remember what the illness was, but I sure hope treatment is helping. Good that Avery will get more family time now.

I think Avery Peterson is, and has always been, a class act. I feel bad for Avery and his family. "Good things" for the Peterson family.

Thoughts and prayers...Have to respect Avery's decision to leave hockey for family obligations. Obviously, he has his priorities in tact ..family first

Is that the reason his production ground to a halt this year? One assist in the games he played and being a healthy scratch lately do not impress.

One would have to assume that had something to do with his on ice performance. Here is an article that details the situation a little more. He kept his personal life to himself and didn't make it a burden to the team.

It was a treat to watch him, Bischoff, Sheppard, Simonson, Jensen, Morse, Makinen and a bunch of other standout players compete in the annual alumni games. Good fun.

Saw him at the Greenway/Hibbing game with Adam Johnson. Hopefully this means he will be a Bulldog. :D
