This is looking like a big game. Should be a barn burner. I just heard that greenway may be without one of there upperclassman due to injury. I'm taking Hibbing 5-3 with a empty net. I think perunovich is to much for the raiders.

The injury is broken ribs and a punctured lung. This occurred in the Eveleth game.

Hope all goes well with his healing. This happened to a Hibbing kid a couple years back and he made it back by playoffs, but wasn't 100%.

What time is this game? Looks like a good one to check out while rapids is between games. How has Greenway been doing?

A friend of mine just talked to the players family and what he was told is the young man suffered torn rib cartalidge and a bruised lung. Sounds like the bleeding on the lung has stopped. Bluejacket country wish him the best on his recovery. His family has Hibbing ties to not only Kate Lange the Hibbing grad that was the National Player of the year in college volleyball at UMD but also her father Tom who was Hibbings long term Athletic Trainer that was just diagnosed with ALS. Dang that family has had a ruff go as of late. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Nick Dulong for a speedy recovery and for his uncle Tom and his battle with ALS.

Finally, the Hibbing/Greenway game is relevant in Section 7 again. This allows me to think back and remember the epic battles these two teams had in the mid and late 60's. The best year (for Greenway fans) is 1967. When Hibbing and Greenway played five times. Greenway went 4-0-1 with the four wins all by one goal. Hibbing had the "Mafia Line" of Collyard, Baldrica and Baratto (sp?) and Greenway was the first team to skate three lines throughout an entire game. Mike Antonovich was a sophomore.

At that time the playoffs were set up according to Districts and Regions. The four districts in Region 7 were 25 (no hockey), 26 (Duluth area), 27 (East Range: Fall, Eveleth, Virginia and others) and 28 (Hibbing Greenway, Rapids and Chisholm). The top two teams for 27 and 28 qualified for the Regions and the top four teams from District 26. The Range teams and the Duluth area teams were then matched up against each other for the Region. Greenway defeated Hibbing in the District Final and Region Final, both played in Hibbing. Hibbing advanced to state through the "back door". The Raiders and Bluejackets met at state in the semi-finals for their fifth and final meeting with Greenway winning on a goal with a close to a minute left.

Here's hoping that this year this rivalry produces the same kind of excitement and intensity as it did then.

Both teams destroyed their respective Rochester opponents last night, and both appear to be on a roll as they head into the big matchup.

There were as many Hibbing fans at the game last night as I've seen in a long time. The weather is fair, so here come the fans.

I imagine the arena will be packed solid on Tuesday and the refs will get an earful on every penalty call, even if its obviously the right call.

Should be a riot.

Well as far as big games go in northern Minnesota, this is looking to be as big as any. I am a little nervous as I thought the bluejackets would separate as the better team but what I keep seeing is the raiders may just be their kryptonite. The snake pit should be packed. If anyone in the state wants to see a good ole time atmosphere, coleraine will be the site Tuesday. This should be a crowd that will turn back the hands of time. I still think advantage Hibbing but when the electricity begins to flow who knows. I'm like a little kid at Christmas. Oh it is Christmas. Does anyone know if the locker room bar takes reservations? My advice is get to the rink early this could be a sell out!!!!

My take on the upcoming game.

Goalies: Edge to Greenway. Greenway's senior goalie has the experience and the capability of being the difference in the game. Hibbing's freshmen goalie is good and certainly won't let in any soft goals.

Defensemen: Obvious edge to Hibbing because of Perunovich. After him, Hibbing and Greenway's defensemen are comparable. However, Greenway's defensemen will be challenged to keep Hibbing's speedy forwards to the outside.

Forwards: Not much difference between the two teams. Hibbing has more speed, but Greenway's first line hast two players (Lantz and Troumbly) who can really stickhandle and create in tight quarters. However, Perunovich's passing ability will create more quality scoring chances for the Hibbing forwards.

Coaching: I'm giving a slight edge to Clafton. He has imprinted this team with his personality and has created a good scheme for the type of players he has.

Keys for Greenway: Be physical while staying out of the penalty box. Greenway has started to take penalties the way they did last year. I hope Clafton makes a point of this in practice. The defensemen need to eliminate some of the poor passing out of the defensive zone. They could get away with it against poor teams, but Hibbing will make them pay.

Keys for Hibbing: Don't let Greenway get a quick start. This would allow the Raiders to build their confidence. Hibbing power play needs to step up and take advantage of their power play. Body up on Lantz and Troumbly so they have little room to operate and can't get the return pass.

Perunovich took over the quarterfinal game last year and turned the game around. Greenway has no answer for him. Hibbing wins 5-2 and outshoots Greenway by 10 shots. Greenway's weak schedule is not going to serve them well.

The best part is that Clafton brought in former Bluejacket stars Adam Johnson and Nick DeCenzo for practice so they could emulate Perunovich. Traitors!

Sounds like usual starter Mike LaDoux is out with an injury and his brother Sam will be in nets for the game. Hopefully that's a plus for Hibbing.

Oh boy now Im guessing you are going to accuse Adam and Nick of not being from Hibbing, because how could a Bluejacket ever support a Greenway program? lol OK enough of that. It does raise a question if there is more going on behind closed doors than everyone knows. Normally over the holidays college kids come home and skate with there former teammates but to be invited to a rival and actually go is something new to me. This just proves the interest in this game is growing!!! Gonna be a packed house!

Yeah, I would hope Johnson and DeCenzo were invited to a Hibbing practice too, but Versich didn't mention it.

Clafton and Holman were their coaches at Hibbing, and Pechovnik was their teammate, so not a huge surprise they made a cameo.

Yes, it does add another element of interest to this game. Gonna be a madhouse tonight! Probably gonna have to get their during JV game to get a decent spot.

Another good reason to get there early is that parking really sucks.

Sadly, WMFG in Hibbing does not stream games, which totally sucks. Not sure if a Greenway or Rapids station will stream it.
