Zach Halverson's Super HS Hockey Rankings for 1/18/16

1. Duluth East

The Hounds scored four unanswered against northeast suburban powerhouse White Bear Lake and really showed why Randolph is a near lock for a 2016 State Title this year. They beat the Bears 4-1, beat Roseau 7-1, and if this trend continues they should beat Prior Lake 10-1, Forest Lake 13-1, Anoka 16-1, and in what could be a defining game in Section 7AA, Duluth East is on pace to beat Elk River 19-1. Better find some room for a banner at Heritage, folks.

2. Holy Family

This is one of the best teams in high school hockey history, even more so than last year which was one of the best high school hockey teams in history after a historical 2013-14 season, in which the Fire were one of the best teams in high school hockey history.

3. Benilde-St. Margaret’s

After a short vacation from relevance, the Red Knights are back and they hang around at No. 3 because they tied Lakeville North, who are ranked No. 38 in my rankings right now. Ouch.

4. Kittson Central

A huge victory over Breckenridge/Wahpeton pushes the Bearcats into the top 5. We'll see if they can't reach the top 3 with a tough match-up this week against Lake of the Woods.

5. Redwood Valley

A 5 game winning streak that includes Luverne has put Redwood Valley on the map, even though I couldn't show you where Redwood Valley is on a map, but I digress. This is a team that can play with whoever, and Section 3A better watch out.

6. Grand Rapids

The Thunderhawks have been playing well, but they're really only in the top 10 right now because their arena is so darn cool. Gotta love the IRA Civic Center!

7. Blaine

It was a bad week for coaches with the last name Carroll, but I'll give Blaine the benefit of the doubt and keep them in the top 10 because they shutout the northeast suburban powerhouse White Bear Lake earlier this year and that's hard to do.

8. Breck

MSHSL rules require at least three private schools in all top 10's of rankings. Feel free to report Karl so that they might strip his credentials.

9. La Crescent

A 3-0 shutout of St. Paul Highland Park sends LaCrescent skyrocketing to the top 10. The La CraSCENT doesn't stink folks! I'm thinking about heading across the river and watching the Lancers play Viroqua, anyone else thinking about making the trip?

10. Bemidji

I don't care how many first names you have, Bemidji is a top-10 team. The Lumberjacks have had some key wins against Hermantown and East Grand Forks, so if they were a Class A school they'd be one of the best! But they're Class AA, so they're like the tenth best or whatever.

Never doubt or quit on Bagley, they have the H2H win over Kittson.

Dang Rainier will need to be checked into the moose lake mental hospital if you rank moose lake ahead of Hibbing. Dang we all know you must really hate Hibbing and you can't be a Hibbing fan if you make a statement like that. Call the hospital and get the brain surgeon a bed.

Fixed that for ya, howardst.

As for these rankings, giving blurbs for each of the top ten in these rankings was good stuff. :D

You do have mental issues. No place did I even mention greenway. Lol. You do have a real hatred for greenway that I do not. I believe they have made one of the great turn arounds in high school hockey and as a ranger I respect that.

Big win for Kittson Central over DL. Will this move them up?
