Lakeville North vs. Farmington

Yup, it just happened. Farmington beat Lakeville North for the second time this season. 1AA will run through Farmington this year. North will have to battle through South to get to the section final. Round 3 should be a great game down in Rochester if it all works out.
Game Recap
The Goal - Farmington was setup in the offensive zone. The puck came out to Jette at the right point. He quickly swung it over to Holmstrom on the left point. Holmstrom took a couple strides in. The forwards and d had shifted to this side of the ice. Holmstrom fired a low wrister and it found its way through traffic and into the net. I was on the opposite zone so I didn't see if Eigner just didn't see it or where exactly it went in.
Farmington wins 1-0. North outshot them 35-21. Farmington was 0 for 3 on the PP including 37 seconds of 5 on 3. North was 0 for 2.
Other Thoughts
Gavin Enright played an outstanding game in net for Farmington. He was the difference maker in the game tonight, just like he was in the first matchup between these two teams. He made a couple big saves, but was just solid and played his positioning well. On a North PP, Max Johnson fired a quick one timer slap shot from the slot and Enright moved nicely to the center of the crease and made the save. He did let a few rebounds sneak out in front of the net, but either his dmen cleared them away quickly or he regrouped and covered them up.
Farmington did a great job taking away the standard North passing lanes. North typically uses the boards on their breakout passes from the defensive zone. Farmington made an effort to put a man on the boards to prevent that. They also clogged up the neutral zone which prevented the talented North forwards from getting the puck with speed and momentum.
North played their normal game for roughly the first period. As the second period progressed and into the third, it seemed like they started pressing a bit. They tried to make the perfect play to setup the sure goal too often. Sure, they had 35 shots on net, but they did pass up some shooting chances and passed to the hopefully open man instead. They attempted long crossing passes from blue line to blue line often that were broken up. Others would try to power through all of the defense, which almost worked but usually ended up the skates of a defender.
North lines were in flux throughout the game. This has been the norm for most of the season. It started with Johnson-Enebak-S.Schneider, Poehling-T.Schneider-Brandt, and Kappes-McGlade-Smith. T.Schneider spent some time on the 1st line with Klans taking his spot on the 2nd line. Gale jumped up from the 3rd defensive pair and played wing on the 2nd line a bit in the 3rd period. There were other minor changes throughout the game. I'm not convinced this was a factor in the outcome because this has been happening for a while and they've been scoring tons of goals. However, it does seem to be the time of year where lines become settled and guys get more comfortable working together.
North also took some extended shifts throughout the game. On a PK midway through the 2nd, the 4 penalty killers were out for the entire kill. Johnson and Enebak were the forwards. They had a couple chances to dump the puck and get a change, but instead opted for an offensive rush. They didn't give up a goal, but did get worked toward the end of the kill. With about 4 minutes left they loaded up with Johnson-Enebak-T.Schneider-Poehling-Pehrson on the ice. They were out for nearly 2 minutes and were reeling toward the end. Just an observation.
I'm hoping these two meet in Rochester with a trip to the X on the line. It should be a great game based on what we've seen so far this year.
