Zach Halverson's Super HS Hockey Rankings for 1/26/16

I was going to publish my rankings last night, but before I was able to post it I burnt my house down after watching the Wild game. Thanks a bunch to Jenny from the American Red Cross for allowing me to use her laptop to post this. She gets it, high school hockey rankings are important.

1. Holy Family

After their 7-0 victory over No. 15 Litchfield tonight, the word 'dynasty' comes to mind, doesn't it? Can anyone (besides Edina, Wayzata, and Breck) stop the Fire? I sure as heck couldn't stop the fire at my house last night.

ELLIOT IS ON HIS TEN THOUSANDTH POST, KARL'S HOUNDS CONTINUE TO COAST, OVER LESSER TALENTED TEAMS LIKE FREAKING ANOKA. LET'S PLAY HOCKEY HAS BENILDE ON TOP, BUT THE ONLY THING THAT KEN PAULY CAN'T STOP, IS A LITTLE SECRET YA'LL SHOULD KNOW, IS JAXSON STAUBER AND JARED MOE

YOU CAN'T STOP THE FIRE! THEY'LL ALWAYS BE BURNING AND THEIR FANS ARE DISCERNING. YOU CAN'T STOP THE FIRE! THEY'RE A TOP RANK AND THEIR STATE TITLE IS IN THE BANK!

2. Kittson Central

Kttson Central ran into a hot goaltender against Lake of the Woods, but returned to prominence with a big 2-1 victory over Detroit Lakes. Kittson Central deserves way more love than what they're actually getting, but I'm sure that they love flying under the radar. Look for them to finish out the season in style, with some cakewalks over Fort Frances, Park Rapids, and the likes.

3. Benilde-St. Margaret’s

Ken Pauly's squad is good, but that tie is a major blemish to an otherwise OK season this year. I'd look for them to exit the section tournament early, with the Red Knight's unable to shake off that Lakeville North tie earlier this year.

I feel like I'm being generous putting them in the top-3 at this point because it's hard to take this team seriously in my opinion.

4. Grand Rapids

The Thunderhawks beat White Bear Lake on Saturday, which is very hard to do. They move to fourth and will undoubtedly be a test for Duluth East come section time after nearly blowing it in OT to Forest Lake in the section quarterfinal.

5. Redwood Valley

The Cardinals won their 8th straight Tuesday night with a big win over the Owatanna suburb of Waseca. The Cardinals continue to 'fly" up the rankings, and I wouldn't expect Redwood Valley to be in the "red" anytime soon.

6. Centennial

The Cougars earn a spot in the top-10 by beating White Bear Lake last week, which is very hard to do. Centennial also beat Blaine, which isn't that impressive considering the Bengals just lost to the worst team in the state not too long ago.

The bottom line here is that Cougars will either represent Section 5 in the Class AA state tournament, or they won't. People forget that.

7. La Crescent

After a tough loss to a bunch of cheaters in Wisconsin, La Crescent comes back and completely dominates Fairmont. Seriously, Fairmont didn't even know what hit them after the Lancers just blazed through town and dominated them. It didn't seem "fair" at all, folks.

8. New Ulm

Wins over Windom Area and Willmar shove New Ulm into the top-10 this week. This makes the Eagles the second Big South Conference team in the top-10 this week, a great accomplishment for a conference that truly lives up to it's name. They are definitely big, and the conference is absolutely in the south. Believe me, I used Google Maps to verify.

9. Bemidji

Bemidji has won four-straight against some very good teams and they have certainly earned their spot in the top-10. They had a cakewalk against No. 150 Hill-Murray Tuesday night, but they did beat some good teams. The Lumberjacks continue to "chop" down their competition.

10. Duluth East

I put the Hounds at No. 1 last week in hopes that Karl would finally notice me and mention me on his podcast. He never did and that made me sad. So I put Duluth East at No. 10 because this is more where I think they belong and because maybe, just maybe, Karl will get angry at me for moving them down this week and finally acknowledge my existence.

Zach, you obviously put a great deal of time in developing your rankings, but if I may quibble just a bit with one thing: If beating White Bear Lake is "very hard to do" why do have them ranked 110? I would put them in the Top 100 at least...please explain.
