The THawks take on the Fire in an outdoor game at a local rink in grand rapids. Their own Hockey Day MN celebration. What a great way to get people excited and involved at the local level when your town isn't hosting the Hockey Day events.
Predictions? Should be a good game. Couple of Mr hockey finalists going head to head.
I'll take GR 4-3.
**Game time has been moved up to 11am from 3pm due to concern from warmer temps affecting the ice.**

HF 4-2 Mr. Hockey Will Garin hockey clinic.
Should have played the green machine outdoors

Didn't realize they were playing this outside. Why would they do that other than to give DJ the excuse once the Fire win?

I was going to be able to throw out some tip ups on Green Bay and get home and watch the 3:00 game. Oh well, I guess I won't see it. I was looking forward to the 1st ever meeting between these 2.

Simple solution. Move it inside to IRA.

Jared Moe in net for Holy Family....5-2 Fire win this game. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was a 2-1 game...HF has to travel from Duluth to Rapids a 2 hour drive after playing a game that ended around 10 p.m. then wake up at 7 am to go play an 11 am game outdoors...

Have you always hated the outdoor games on hockey day?

No i'm just saying if the game was at 3 p.m. it would give both team's a much better chance of playing at 100 percent...both teams played games that ended around 10 p.m. I love outdoor hockey I just wish it was colder at 3 instead of 11 a.m

Sounds about right for a TYPICAL game day road trip for northern Minny teams.

. Welcome to our world!

Oh and a little travel advice - let the boys sleep in another 30 minutes ... if take US Hwy 2 ... straight shot to Rapids ... only 83 miles ... 1 1/2 hour drive time

This was actually meant for Nuts and bolts and his previous posts complaining about playing outside. I agree 3pm would have been better but probably a good decision with warmer temps predicted.

I like the outdoor idea for Hockey Day MN but that's happening in Duluth. Why would GR jump in and do another outdoor game? What GR did on Pokegama in '13 or '14 was cool but conditions can impact the game plus there's a safety issue IMO. Just my opinion which I'm throwing out there. But wait is this what got Stats banned? Spot on about Westy/TS = BS. Go Hounds in the real outdoor game today.

GR takes down #2 Holy Family 5-3. That should lock up the #1 seed for GR especially with Randolph quoted as saying they deserved it before this weeks games. They are peaking at the right time.

Another good win for the Thunderhawks. This team has been coming together nicely as the season has gone on. Hoping they can keep it going.

Well it is called Hockey Day MINNESOTA. Not Hockey Day Duluth. I see no problem with it and think it's a great idea to do something different and celebrate where the sport started. Hope they do it again next year. Only safety issue was pucks flying toward the crowd and that only happened a couple times. Ouch, Hounds now 0-2 on hockey day.

1-2. They beat WBL in 2009.

Great win for the home team today. Awesome venue and great game by both teams. Rapids had a great effort and execution all game. They fought hard and played fast. Only thing to work on will be taking less penalties. It's great to play with fire in the belly but can't go over board and loose your cool. Adams has been playing great lately, hat trick today. Holy Family goalie, moe, was strong in net. Came up big several times when Rapids had a 5-3 for two minutes.
I think this locks up the 1 seed for Rapids.

They're 1-3
Oddly enough the best team since the mid 90s team that got spanked 9-3 in 2012 by Minnetonka

Fantastic game today in Grand Rapids between two quality teams. Cudos to the staff for making the venue top notch. Outdoor games like these should take place every year. Both teams will remember this game fondly for years. Rapids is playing its best hockey at the right time and seems to have settled on its line combinations.
