Since the rule changes in the NHL do you think they should go to a full face shield maybe try it for a year or leave as a option for players if they want it also if you have 3 or more concusions maybe it should be manditory to wear one maybe it could cut down on concusion a bit especially when you take a shot to the jaw.

just some thought I had on the NHL !!!

No way! I dont agree with a mandatory face shield, if someone wants to wear one, especialy when previously injured thats fine. Remember some of us old timers when we didnt wear helmets as kids? Sticks stayed down because we knew what would happen. We never wore mouth guards either. If someone took it to the face or head it was usually their fault not paying attention. Just my opinion.

thats one of those things that shouldnt be mandatory for the nhl but leave it up to the coaches and players... if i was a coach and i had players getting hurt and put on the IR just because of an injury to the face that could have easily been prevented ide probably make it mandatory for my team. (Mats Sundin to name a high profile injury this season). The NHL is a business and its up to the coaches on if the facemask will affect their play more then an injury would....thats my 2 cents haha

Players in the nhl are more aware that others are not wearing face masks...if youve ever played in a league where face masks are not mandatory ud know that you are more careful with ur stick when pursuing a player without a mask vs a player with a mask... As for making it a rule in the nhl- im somewhat torn-- personally i dont wear a mask when i play now, but i can definitley see the concern and you always hate to see someone get a puck/stick to the face...

If I'm not mistaken, I don't think you can wear one, even if you want too. I think the league has to approve if you have a specific injury.

All I know is that I would wear a shield to protect myself and the Oakley masks look pretty cool.

My opinion, it should stay optional. It's your face and potentially your carrier that is being put on the line. And also (if this is TRUE) a player cannot fight with a face shield on... I don't know if this is a written rule or a mutual understanding between players. But anyways (if the rule is true?) if everyone is forced to wear a shield there would be no fighting or less...?

In all honesty I saw the topic and I just typed what I assume. I have no background knowledge on the matter, but I thought I would just throw my opinion out here.

Plus I'd hate to see Tie Domi not fight...

They shouldn't have to wear a full face shield, its pretty much apart of the game as far as fighting goes and I think that the players would probably be pretty mad about a decision to wear face shields. If I were in the NHL I wouldn't wear a face shield, but I'd wear the Itech Reflector Half-face visor that Ovechkin wore at the 2005 WJC up in Grand Forks, that has to be the sweetest shield that I've ever seen by far.

I think it should be their own risk to wear it or not. Plus with wearing them it wouldn't be as easy to fight.

I think that a half-shield should be mandatory because a lot of people are getting hit up near the eyes these days

If shields were required the, no fighting with one on penalties would have to be void. While I agree that 1/2 shields should be manditory, a part of me thinks that these are grown men that can make there own decisions on every other aspect of there life why not here? If they want a black disc flying 90+ MPH hitting them in the face its their choice to protect themselves or not.

You'd be nuts not to!......by SS

A player shouldn't be ostracized if they decide to wear a

full face shield!

S S

i kinda think both because they should wear one so they don't get hurt but then again its up to them whether they wanna risk it or not

I would have it optional for the kids just getting out of college they might not adjust to the half sheild or no sheild right away taking away skill so in my point i say optional

This isn't even worth dicussing, full face shields will never be put in place. The NHL is struggling with market opportunities as is. They aren't going to jeopardize fighting & face recognition for the sake of protecting their players. They aren't your kids in high school guys, they're adults.

Here's what I see. These professionals are just that; professionals. I think if they don't want to wear a mask at all, they shouldn't have to. I thought about this for a little bit and realized it's pretty much like wearing your seatbelt or not. If you don't wear your seatbelt, you're at a much higher risk of injury if you're in an accident. Same thing with no shield, half shield, or full shield. If a player decides not to wear a shield, he's putting himself at a higher risk of injury, but is that wrong? I just find it funny that a pro hockey player doesn't have to wear a shield at the rink, but then on his way home he has to wear his seatbelt. I dunno, does anybody kinda see where I'm coming from on this? I think these two things are very very similar. Let me know what you think. Maybe I'm just crazy haha.

A few years back the WCHA coaches voted to goto half shields, of course the NCAA just laughed....but I think it shows how strong the 'good ol' boys' feel about the subject.

I didn't wear a mask or a shield, I should have. If my son plays jr.s or above I'll push him to wear a shield at the least, but if you watch the MJHL and you watch a High School game you see the sticks are much higher in the High School game.

I wish officals called high hits more, in Canada they have a head check penalty. You hit a guy in the head you go to box you feel shame, then you get free. A guys head is a pretty importain thing, young whippersnappers don't have the respect they once did to try to avoid hurthing eachother with dirty hits or high sticks. I blame the officals more than the coaches or players. When high hits are let go, you get your hands up to protect yourself and then they get higher to get away from your high hit until every part of the game is head high!

i was just going to post 1 little thing.......dang i am going to bed!
