After another year of thrilling section playoffs (upsets, shocking comebacks, narrow escapes) its tourney time. I know people are going to whine and complain that the state tournament has none of the major powerhouses (Where is Duluth East, Edina, Hill Murray, Warroad and Roseau) but its going to be a interesting tournament!! So without further delay here is my AA picks.

QF
Grand Rapids 2, Bemidji 1-Adams scores game winner for T-Hawks
Eden Prairie 4, Anoka 2-Tornadoes try their best to wisk Eagles away to OZ but EP hangs onto its ruby slippers and advances.
Stillwater 5, Farmington 1-Ponies give Farmington a rough ride
Wayzata 4, Burnsville O-Troy conquers and puts out Blaze.
SF
Eden Prairie 5, Grand Rapids 3-Eagles add en goal
Wayzata 3, Stillwater 2 (2 ot)-Ponies appear headed to win but suffer shocking collapse in final 2 min)
Final Eden Prairie 6, Wayzata 5 (5 ot)- Tense back and forth battle. Middelstadt scores state championship goal at 12:30 am!!).

Warroad has never competed in AA. Ever. There was no AA tournament in 1989.

Me thinks most are overlooking Farmington, Me thinks you will all be surprised, I'm not flat out guaranteeing a Tiger victory, that would be disrespectful to a solid Stillwater team. But, I think Farmington has a better chance of winning this one than losing. Farmington's defense is solid, they shut down the highly skilled LVN team 3 times this year and I question the fact that the Ponies could only put up one against a Hill-Murray team who does NOT have a comparable defense to Farmington. I think the only thing that could hold the Tigers back will be how Sophomore goaltender Enright stands up to the pressure of the Big stage. This team could do some real damage.

East Pioneer Guy, that was my sarcastic point. Someone had mentioned Warroad as a hockey power, yet they never competed in AA or ever won a state championship when the tournament was just one class. I always like to point that out about our Highway 11 rivals.

I agree with the point about Stillwater's less than impressive win Friday night. I can see Stillwater losing to Farmington, and I can see them winning 3 games without too much difficulty. Sometimes lackluster play in a section final or quarterfinal game is an omen of things to come, sometimes it's just a small bump on the road to a championship that is forgotten by most.

Farmington has zero tournament experience, not that Stillwater has much more. But if were a betting man, and coincidentally I am, I'll say 4-1 or 5-1 Ponies.

I'd put up a couple bucks that at least one of the unseeded teams wins. I don't see Wayzata loosing in the first round, so it will be EP or SW.

I love a good underdog story so here we go!

Quarterfinal Victors
Farmington 3-2
Burnsville 2-1
Eden Prairie 4-0
Grand Rapids 4-2

Semifinal Victors
Burnsville 2-1
Grand Rapids 3-2

Third Victor
Farmington 2-1

Championship Victor
Burnsville 3-2

Bemidji v Farmington Final on tap.

Stillwater went to OT 0-0 against the worst Hill team in 15 years. So they are a big pretender.

Wayzata wins their game against a game Burnsville team but then gets upset in a shutout against Farmington.

EP destroys an Anoka team that couldn't beat Hermantown and Bemidji squeaks by a really good Rapids team.

Bemidji shocks the world with a 6-2 win over EP and then takes the title with a solid 7-1 win over Farmington.

Sparlimb. This year anything is possible. I'm intrigued by your Saturday night game forecast, featuring two super sophomore goalies Fitzgerald vs Enright. ( Both programs have a history of producing a succession of top quality goalies)

QF Winners: Ponies, Trojans, Eagles, 'Jacks

SF Winners: Trojans, Eagles

Winner: Eagles

By the way, while seeding hasn't been going on too many years, I can't imagine we'll see another #1 seed at State that finished FOURTH in its conference during the regular season (and without significant injuries affecting the team's record) any time soon.
