GR has scored 31 goals this year and 21 of them have been scored by the 1st line. Out of curiosity, I just looked through the box scores...they may not be scoring all the goals, and at least one of the big three has had a hand in all but 4 of their goals. All 4 of those came in the blowout over Virginia. Stampohar has a bunch of points, as you'd expect, and his D partner, Heitkamp, is also piling up the assists. I wasn't thinking about the fact the defensemen have accounted for some of the extra goals. That's pretty lopsided, especially for AA. It happens, though...Roseau a couple years back with Strand and Yon got to state and nearly beat Lakeville North, though that 8AA was not as good as this 7AA. And we could talk about a team like Greenway in the Sertich/Guyer years. Blaine was much the same way last year and stayed top 5 most of the season, though of course that didn't exactly work out in the end. Rapids already has something on those teams in that they have 3 elite forwards, not 2.
As I said in the rankings, this week is the best possible test for their current approach. They might just have enough talent on that top line that they can't be stopped, and if the others can at least hold their own, there's a winning formula there. But if they lose to anyone other than Eden Prairie in this tournament, they may want to at least toy with spreading the love around a little more.

Another comparable team to the current Rapids team would be the Hastings club that met up with mighty East in the '98 Quarters. Taffe, Welch, and Tharp gave East fits, before the Hounds machine-like depth took over. Taffe and Welch were undeniably as dynamic as any of the Rapids trio, and Tharp was at least equal to Stampohar. One line can work a lot of damage.
