Was good to be in the studio this week...should solve the sometimes shaky audio quality, at least for one week, and it's just easier to interact and not talk over other people when we can actually see each other. Even if it was my turn to nearly have a Freudian slip...

Tony was getting a bit excited at the end of the show with White Bear Lake. He might have to go back and check the history of WBL at the high school level to see how it might play out.
I am saying Edina will win not one, but two in the tournament but I got a little home cooking going

Okay Green Machine,
I'll take your bait...I am quite aware of White Bear's poor first round state tourney record. In fact, I think I take advantage of it a couple times of year in my writing - just to make sure WBL readers are paying attention.
That said, I think the Bears deserve a little credit...that is all.

Wasn't meant to be a dig, and I think it goes past just WBL losing at state. At least to me, WBL always starts off decent but then turns out to just be a slightly above average team.YouthHockeyHub wrote:Okay Green Machine,

In 14' they started 9-1-1 before being bounced 2-1 in the semi final to a middling Stillwater team that WBL had scored 12 goals on in two regular season wins.
In 15' they started 9-0 before again losing in the Semi's, to another Stillwater team that they beat twice in the regular season, though the Ponies were decent that year.
Even last year when we all knew they were going to struggle they still started 3-0 and 6-2 before falling below .500 at 10-14-1
On the show you talked about how you weren't impressed with Tonka barely beating Jefferson, but in WBL 5 wins, one of them is narrowly beating Jefferson 3-2.
I am with you guys, I am surprised a bit with how they have started, especially after last year, but if there is one team I won't jump up in the rankings or expectations after a quick start, it would have to be White Bear.
Nothing personal meant by it, I partly just want to get some excitement going on the forum.

If there is one really good thing about this team it's that they rarely play down to their opponent and even when they do, they're able to limit goaltending and solid defense to limit the damage. Because of that goaltending (Parenteau has had a tremendous start) and the defense, this team could pull off some upsets this year.
That was already illustrated by their win over Duluth East. The Greyhounds, overall, were the better team but they struggled getting opportunities and failed to execute when they finally got them. I should note the officials were pretty one-sided in the game, but they Bears were able to fend off power play after power play, which gives me some hope in the future.
They took care of business against East Ridge and Roseville. They need to do the same against Mounds View and Cretin-Derham Hall heading into a pivotal game on the 22nd against Hill-Murray, a game which you can watch exclusively on The Horn.
Will the Pioneers beat the Bears? Probably. Do the Bears have a chance? Absolutely. If they muck it up in their own zone and play like they did against the Greyhounds and perhaps learn how to pass the puck this could be a great hockey game. Also, they need to stay out of the freaking penalty box. Had they done that two years ago, I truly believe they would have won that game.
