Eden Prairie 3, Duluth East 2, Final (OT). Game ended when Meierhoff dropped a lob-in from the blue line by Leivermann 10 seconds in to OT...so, about the ugliest ending to a game I've seen in a long, long time.

Other than that, though, it was a pretty entertaining and fairly even game. East contained Casey fairly well and both teams were tight and going back and forth. The shots read pretty strongly in EP's favor, but all of that gap was built in a couple-minute stretch late in the 2nd and early in the 3rd. East withstood that, tied it, and looked pretty strong until a the refs called a penalty with less than a minute left.

It was a remarkably awful call--I doubt even the EP fans would disagree--and led to more Mike Randolph yelling than I can ever remember. (He's more the type to summon a ref over and work them than scream a la Ken Pauly.) Maybe that threw East off their game, though it can't be an excuse if it did. They barely survived regulation, and then the game-winner happened right off the draw in OT.

EP, despite being down Johannes, looked much crisper than they did in Cloquet on Friday night. Good depth, good physicality, a lot of nice flashes from Leivermann. That said, I really don't get what Lee Smith is trying to achieve with some of his lines.

For East...well, still waiting for that signature win outside the section, but they once again skated just fine with a top team. Both goals were by the 3rd line. The top line didn't generate a whole lot, but it was matched against Casey most of the afternoon. Just need to forget how that one ended and move on.

Mahtomedi 2-1 over STA.

Guess that pretty much wraps up another conference championship for Hill. Something like 15 of the last 16...

I think it's Stillwater retaining #1, Edina moving up to #2, and then it's a mess after that.
