Class A Rankings 2-19-17

1. [1] Hermantown (23-1-1)
The Hawks have won 23 in a row and allowed 0 or 1 goals in 16 of 25 games this season.

2. [2] Delano/Rockford (21-3-1)
The Tigers have only lost to Hermantown and Holy Family this season.

3. [3] Breck (20-3-2)
The Mustang's only Class A loss is to Delano in the second game of the season.

4. [4] Mahtomedi (13-11-1)
Only Class A losses are Hermantown, Breck and St Paul Academy.

5. [5] St. Paul Academy (21-4-0)
Two close losses to Breck and a recent road loss in Colleraine are the only Spartans MN blemishes.

6. [6] St. Cloud Cathedral (17-6-2)
Cathedral and Delano are the only teams to have played all the teams ranked ahead of them.

7. [7] East Grand Forks (14-8-2)
Losing to TRF isn't a great way to end the season.

8. [9] Alexandria (15-7-3)
Beating Sartell and losing to EGF by 1 to end the season puts them right between them. Their lone game with Cathedral was early and ended in a tie; should be a good section tournament.

9. [8] Sartell (16-6-3)
Having gotten crushed by Cathedral and losing to Alexandria to close the season doesn't make their section chances look too promising.

10. [11] Hibbing/Chisholm (18-7-0)
Closing the season getting crushed by Hermantown, they are likely the 2 seed going 1-1 with Greenway and having no other section losses.

11. [10] Greenway (17-7-1)
After losing to International Falls 2 weeks ago, they beat the Broncos to close the season. They should be the 3 seed with an exciting semifinal.

12. [12] Orono (16-9)
The spartans lost only 2 games by more than 3 goals. The 3 seed plays their first section game against the 6 seed who recently beat them.

13. [13] Fergus Falls (15-9-1)
Beating Alexandria and losing to Sartell by 1 is a great way to end the season. The Fliers are rewarded with a 5 seed and play Little Falls first in the postseason, a team who has beaten them twice; can they win the third match-up?

14. [14] Blake (12-13-0)
Had a good season, with some losses to some good teams. The first team they play is a team they beat by 2 and is followed by a likely match-up with Breck.

15. [15] Totino-Grace (10-13-2)
2-3 in their games against Class A teams this season, losing to EGF by 1 and Mahtomedi by 2. Minnehaha Academy should be a good test, with the possibility of playing SPA after.

SPA's ability to repeat will be diminished by their top player and second leading scorer being out for the next 3 games. He got his 2nd ejection of the season in the last game (and whether it was for cross-checking, or fake headbutting, or gesturing/spitting while leaving the ice, it doesn't matter). 1 ejection = 1-game suspension, 2 ejections in a season = 3-game suspension.

I heard it was appealed and they changed the call. So, he'll be playing.

Interesting... The hub still has him listed with 2 game ejections! Rules were meant to be broken! You'd think they would change the call on the hub score sheet. Perception will haunt them!

"Daddy call the right people?"

The answer to that question must certainly be 'yes' -- because referee decisions aren't "appealable" after the fact. The rule book is black-and-white. Other than the referee misidentifying the wrong player on the scoresheet, a game ejection is a game ejection. And two ejections in one season result in a three-game suspension. Gaming the system matters more, however -- remember, this is the same group that had its Fifty Shades soap opera scandal a couple seasons ago.

Upset is a strong word here. Very evenly matched teams in all three games played. Even in the 5 to 1 home victory for Little Falls, Fergus outshot them. I was at the game Tuesday and it was a very entertaining 2ot game that ended on a ricochet shot from the point by Fergus. In all honesty, I thought LF was the better team on that night and had the majority of the zone time. Fergus got the puck luck in OT and won it. Best of luck to the Otters against Cathedral. Hope they can pull the upset. Some great kids on the Otter team.

BTW, Hockey Hub and Rink Writer have shots wrong. LF had 31 shots, FF had 26. Scoresheet looks totally screwed up.

Heard the ejection was for head-butting and there was a video showing that no head-butt occurred.
