EP vs. STA. The monster/vas youth hockey jagernaut vs. the recruiting prowess of STA. It will be fun someday to watch the jagernaut called Duluth East and it’s massive youth system vs. Hermantown Academy and their combined young/kids from all over 218 coming to play for the Hawks. They’ve got a hybrid setup over there. Very impressive and jealous. Good for you Hermantown! #imeanthat

Technically, yes, it is "Mound Westonka/Watertown-Mayer" but for what it is worth there is not one single player on Westonka's JV or Varsity roster that hails from Watertown or Mayer. In most years, there are a couple. Not this season.

STMA vs Buffalo and Brainerd vs St. Cloud are two huge games for 8AA seeding. The middle tier of teams in that section is a mess, and these two games should help give us some semblance of clarity. Buffalo is unlikely to rise above the fifth seed given their early losses, but they are certainly capable of knocking off STMA at least once.

I’ll say Buffalo and Brainerd win their games. Brainerd looked impressive at the Hilltoppers holiday classic.
Bears
Hawks
Sartell
Lea
EP
Marshall

STA 3 - EP 2, Final

Only was able to catch the third period. These two teams just seem to have a habit of close games. EP comes back to tie a little past the halfway part of the period at 2. EP takes an unnecessary cross-checking penalty away from the play, in an otherwise clean game I come to find out. STA gets the game winner on the PP. Christy skates by Konin without much of a defensive challenge along the wall, crashes towards the goal, and puts the puck past Dietrich.

Any reports on Orono’s 2-1 win over Mound-Westonka? The box score sure makes it look like an even game throughout, with Orono popping the winning goal with just under a minute left.

That pretty much describes it. Not sure how it could have been any more even. Shots were dead even. Chances were even. Up and down the ice with a lot of urgency on both sides. Great goaltending on both sides and a LOT of speed.

Not the last these two will see of each other.

Winning goal was a wrist shot with the goalie not seeing it through the mass of bodies screening his vision.

Thanks for the recap. Sounds like a fun game to watch between two of the best in Class A. Section 2A is crazy, but Orono and MW seem to be creating a bit of separation between themselves and the rest of the pack.
