I think you nailed the game of the day, at least in terms of combined sectional importance and expected competitiveness. One matchup you didn’t highlight that I think may be interesting is Chaska vs SLP.

I would think Centennial and Edina could be a good game. I know the Hornets have pounded most of the competition this year but this is another good team. I do think Edina wins though.

Centennial struck early and then got another to lead 2-0 in the first. Edina had some chances but did not net any.

Second period it was weird...on a PP in front of his own goal a d-man took off and overskated the puck with his stick above the puck. Jungels immediately grabbed it and buried it for the shorty. Hornets very fortunate.

Trailing 2-1 through two but thoroughly dominating the game play, it was anyone's guess what would happen next. Could Hornets pitch a perfect period like Cretin did over the Fire? Would time wind down with no more scoring? Does a mistake end up leading to another Centennial goal for an insurmountable lead?

Hornets got two goals fairly early in the third, with the first on the PP. No more scoring, although the Cougars got several good shots to net late.

Plenty of bruises for the boys and for the entire second and most of the third the Centennial ploy was to pack it in tight and block a bazillion shots. Worked for Lakeville South to also keep the score from getting away from them.

Final comment: Lucas McGregor is one heck of a player. Clearly the best one on the ice in the first period and a very solid game the rest of the way.

Another good win for Edina O-Town. Can come from behind against a good team and win a close one. It's going to be tough to deny them a spot mid March.

Class A results

Lots of big Class A games last night. Below is a list of the more notable A vs. A results.

Mound 3, Hutchinson 1
LDC 3, Monticello 1
South St. Paul 4, Minneapolis 2
Sartell 6, Little Falls 1
Hermantown 2, VMIB 1
Crookston 2, EGF 1 (OT) (?!)

And I’ll give a shout out to Breck for bouncing back and defeating Minnehaha Academy 5-0. Minnehaha has been decent this year, and a win is a win at this point.

The final two games were obviously the most interesting of the night. Hermantown pulled one out yet again in Virginia, with all of the scoring taking place in the final five minutes of the game. EGF seems to be struggling of late (partially due to injuries) and is looking vulnerable with a huge matchup against Warroad coming up.

I have nothing against EGF TRF or Warroad, but would enjoy seeing Crookston at state.
